Skyhawks Complete Comeback Win Versus Le Moyne, 3-2

Maxey records fourth double-double of the season in the victory

Junior Sydney Maxey posted her fourth double-double of the season to push the Skyhawks to a 5-3 record in the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10).

EASTON, Mass. (October 19, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to claim a five set victory over Le Moyne College by scores of 21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 15-6 in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Friday night at Merkert Gymnasium on "Volleyball Alumni & Family Weekend."

Junior co-captain and outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) compiled her fourth double-double of the season on a match-high 17 kills (.375 hitting percentage), 12 digs and one assist to guide the Skyhawks offensively. Classmate and right-side hitter Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) posted 11 kills, four block assists and one helper while freshman outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) rounded out the double-digit kills list with ten for a .241 hitting percentage, four digs, one block solo and one assist.

Sophomore setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) engineered the offense with a match-high 50 assists, 11 digs, five kills, one service ace and one block assist. Iverson now has ten double-doubles on the season which leads the squad.

Defensively, senior co-captain Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) recorded 16 digs and four assists, junior defensive specialist Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) led the team with 17 digs, three assists and two kills and freshman Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) had 14 digs and a match-high four service aces.

For the Dolphins, sophomore middle hitter Kristen Willets (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) registered a team-high 12 kills on a .455 hitting percentage, six block assists, one dig and one helper.

Senior Allison Hebel (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) contributed 12 kills, 11 digs, one block assist and one assist. Senior outside hitter Bethany Fabian (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) notched ten kills, a team-high 20 digs and three block assists. Sophomore setter Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) ran the offense with 42 assists, nine digs, two kills and one service ace.

Stonehill dropped the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores as the Skyhawks tallied a .115 hitting percentage through the first two games. Hebel and Willets combined for nine kills and seven blocks (all assists) during the first two sets.

In set three, Stonehill used a multi-faceted attack as seven players recorded at least one kill compiling a .170 hitting percentage and 15 putaways. Maxey led the way with four kills, Phillips and Arvidson added three kills, sophomore middle blocker Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) had two kills and Iverson, sophomore Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) and junior Rachel Sperando (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) each tallied one kill apiece. The Skyhawks also received a solid defensive effort recording their set-high for digs on the night with 23 as Frankowski registered six, Iverson had five and Weymouth and Kelly chipped in with three to highlight the back row.

After taking set four 25-18, Stonehill raised its attacking efficiency in set five posting a game-high .455 hitting percentage (11 kills, one error, 22 attempts). The Skyhawks raced out to a 9-2 lead and did not lose momentum when Le Moyne called its first of two timeouts receiving two kills from Maxey, one from Arvidson and a Dolphins attacking error to eventually push the score to 13-6. Another timeout was called by Le Moyne to halt the momentum but Iverson and Lee closed out the match with back-to-back kills directly after the stoppage in play.

Stonehill (11-9, 5-3 NE-10) hosts The College of Saint Rose tomorrow on "Volleyball Alumni & Family Weekend" in Merkert Gymnasium at 1 p.m. Le Moyne (12-8, 3-5 NE-10) travels to Bentley University tomorrow for a 1 p.m. matchup.
