Stonehill Splits Matches With Dowling And LIU Post

Skyhawks push record to 10-9 overall on the season

Sophomore Mary-Kate Catton delivered a team-high 15 kills against Dowling in the Skyhawks 3-1 victory.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (October 13, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches this evening at the Pratt Rec Center claiming a 3-1 victory over Dowling by scores of 25-14, 25-22, 20-25 and 27-25 and dropped a 3-1 decision to LIU Post, the host of the tri-match, by scores of 21-25, 21-25, 25-22 and 18-25.

Sophomore middle blocker Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) led the Skyhawks offensively with a team-high 15 kills for a .480 hitting percentage, one dig and three block assists. Freshman outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) hammered home 14 putaways (.324 hitting percentage), nine digs, two service aces and one block solo.

Sophomore setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) dished out a match-high 47 assists, six digs, two block assists, two kills and one service ace. Junior outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) just missed out on a double-double effort with 11 digs and nine kills.

Defensively, Stonehill received a team-high 26 digs from senior co-captain and libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist), one service ace and one assist. Junior defensive specialist Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) aided the Skyhawks backline with nine digs.

Stonehill posted a .242 hitting percentage, seven service aces, 66 digs and 13 blocks (one solo). Dowling combined to hit .219, register 52 assists, two service aces, 66 digs and 11 blocks (one solo).

Junior right-side hitter Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) paced the Skyhawks with a team-high nine kills and one dig. In match one of the afternoon, Arvidson posted an identical tally in kills alongside two block assists. Maxey chipped in with eight kills and eight digs while Catton had seven kills and one dig.

Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) notched six kills, nine digs, two service aces and one block assist. Iverson engineered the offense with 39 assists, 12 digs, three kills, one service ace and one block assist.

The defensive duo of Kelly and Frankowski combined for 41 digs as Kelly collected a match-high 24 digs and Frankowski registered 17.

Stonehill connected for 44 kills in match two of the afternoon, 42 assists, nine service aces, 77 digs and four block assists. LIU Post hit .214, had 57 kills, 50 assists, six service aces, 82 digs and 14 blocks (two solo).

Stonehill (10-9, 4-3 NE-10) hosts Le Moyne College on Friday, October 19 at 7 p.m. and The College of Saint Rose on Saturday, October 20 at 1 p.m. in its next two home matches at Merkert Gymnasium on "Volleyball Alumni & Family Weekend."
