Kelly Named NE-10 Molten Libero of the Week

Tinley Park, Ill. native earns first-career weekly award

EASTON, Mass. (September 5, 2012) – Stonehill College senior captain Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Molten Libero of the Week by the league office, it was announced earlier today.

Kelly set a match-high in digs with 23 (5.75 d/s) against Post University on Saturday in Stonehill's 3-1 non-conference victory on the road. Kelly also added one assist and one service ace in the Skyhawks season opening win.

Kelly, who transitioned to the libero position last fall after playing setter in her first two seasons at Stonehill, earns her first-career NE-10 weekly award. Kelly posted 487 digs total in her first season at the position last season ranking third overall in the conference in total digs and eighth overall in digs per set (3.87). Kelly also finished first overall in service aces per set (0.58) in the NE-10 and 17th overall in all of Division II. For her efforts last fall, Kelly was named to the NE-10 All-Conference second team, the NE-10 Tournament All-Championship team and earned AVCA All-East Region honorable mention recognition.

Stonehill, who tied the program record for most wins in a single-season (27-8, 1996), finished its season with a 27-7 record overall and 14-1 mark in NE-10 play. The Skyhawks advanced to their second-straight NE-10 Tournament semifinal round and made their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament falling to Adelphi University in both matches.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action on Friday, September 7 at the Riverfront Hotel Grand Rapids Classic at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Michigan against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Notre Dame (Ohio) College with its first match beginning at 11 a.m. Post University (0-2, 0-0 CACC) takes on Molloy College on Tuesday, September 4, on the road, at 6 p.m.
