Colpoys Named Assistant Volleyball Coach at Stonehill

Former Holy Cross captain joins Skyhawks staff after standout playing career

EASTON, Mass. (June 15, 2012) – Stonehill College has named Kathleen Colpoys as assistant volleyball coach. The announcement was made today by head coach Lauren Amundson and confirmed by Brendan Sullivan, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at the College.

"I am thrilled that Kathleen will be joining us as an assistant coach," said Amundson. "Her passion for volleyball, for connecting with players, and her competitive drive make her a perfect fit for our program. Her knowledge and enthusiasm will, without a doubt, contribute to our quest for a Northeast-10 Championship, a return to the NCAA Tournament, and beyond."

Colpoys joins Stonehill following a standout four year career at College of the Holy Cross, where she became the first student-athlete in program history to record over 700 kills and 200 blocks. She served as captain her senior season and finished her career ranked second in Crusader history with a .236 hitting percentage, while ranking fourth all-time with 214 career blocks and seventh with 755 career kills. Colpoys, who received the team's Coach's Award, is one of just four players in program history to tally 200-plus kills three-straight seasons and recorded a career-best 81 blocks during her senior season – good for sixth in program history.

Colpoys, who earned a pair of All-Tournament team honors over her career, gained coaching experience at Holy Cross as a volunteer assistant coach over the winter. She assisted with individual training, team practices and the Crusaders' spring tournaments, while also being introduced to recruiting practices. Colpoys has also worked at summer volleyball clinics at Holy Cross and Connecticut College during her collegiate career.

Colpoys is active in community service, volunteering her time with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and also serving as Eucharistic minister with her local congregation. She represented her fellow residents at Holy Cross as a SADER Representative and Alumni Hall Council member during her time at the College. She participated in the spring break immersion program at Holy Cross in 2009 by volunteering in the hurricane affected areas of New Orleans.

Colpoys graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics at Holy Cross last month. A native of Scituate, Mass., she is a 2008 graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Hingham where she was a National Honor Society member and three sport captain.

Stonehill is coming off a 2011 season in which it posted a 27-7 record overall, tying the program mark for wins in a single season set in 1996, including a program record 14 Northeast-10 Conference wins (14-1). The Skyhawks finished second in the NE-10 regular season standings and earned the first NCAA Tournament bid in program history. Stonehill opens its 2012 season at Post University on Saturday, September 1, at 2 p.m. The Skyhawks first home match is scheduled for Saturday, September 29, when they host Saint Michael's College for an NE-10 match at 1 p.m.
