Emily Iverson ranks 36th in NCAA Division II in assists per set at 10.44

Skyhawks duo led Stonehill to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance 

EASTON, Mass. (November 23, 2011) – Two members of the Stonehill College women's volleyball team have earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region honors. Freshman setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and sophomore outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) are the first players in program history to garner AVCA All-East Region accolades. Junior libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) earned honorable mention recognition. 

Iverson piloted the best offense in the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) as the Skyhawks ranked tied for first in kills per set (12.67) and first in hitting percentage (.214) to end the season. Iverson, who earned the NE-10 Rookie of the Year award and selections to the All-Conference first team and All-Rookie team – led the NE-10 in assists per set at 10.44. Iverson was the only setter in the conference to average over 10 assists per set and compiled 1,315 assists on the season, 229 more than the second-best setter in the NE-10 this fall. 

Iverson currently ranks 36^th overall among all setters in NCAA Division II volleyball and fourth among all freshman setters in the country averaging 10.44 assists per set. Iverson also became the first setter in program history to record 1,000 assists during a season on October 25 against Bentley University. Iverson, only needing three assists entering the match for 1,000, recorded 40 assists in a 3-0 sweep over the Falcons.

Sydney Maxey finished third overall in the NE-10 in kills per set at 3.22.

Maxey powered Stonehill's offense all season long ranking third in the NE-10 in kills per set at 3.22 and sixth in hitting percentage at .253. Maxey finished second in the conference in total kills putting down 374 in 116 sets played. Maxey, a NE-10 All-Conference first team selection, was also a key contributor to the second-best defense in the NE-10 averaging 3.54 digs per set (10^th overall). Defensively, the Skyhawks ranked first in total digs with 2,086 on the season and second in digs per set at 16.56. 

Maxey, an All-Rookie Team selection in 2010, compiled 17 double-doubles this season, posted double-digit kill efforts in 22 matches and 10 or more digs in 23 matches. Maxey also earned three NE-10 Player of the Week awards during the regular season. 

Kelly, a NE-10 All-Conference second team selection, ranked eighth overall in digs per set in the NE-10 at 3.87 and first in service aces per set at 0.58. Kelly also ranks 16^th overall in Division II in aces per set. 

Stonehill, who tied the program record for most wins in a single-season (27-8, 1996), finished its season with a 27-7 record overall and 14-1 mark in NE-10 play. The Skyhawks advanced to their second-straight NE-10 Tournament semifinal round and made their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament falling to Adelphi University in both matches.
