Stonehill Earns First Ever NCAA Tournament Bid

EASTON, Mass. (November 13, 2011) – Stonehill College has earned its first ever trip to the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Tournament after receiving the fifth seed in the East Region. 

Stonehill (27-6, 14-1 NE-10) will play fourth-seeded Adelphi University (22-7, 12-3 NE-10) on Thursday, November 17. The Panthers earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning its first ever NE-10 championship this week by defeating The College of Saint Rose in straight sets. Match times will be announced on Monday. 

Thursday's opening round will mark the third meeting between Stonehill and Adelphi this season. The Skyhawks are 1-1 overall against the Panthers notching a 3-0 triumph in the regular season while falling to Adelphi, 3-0, in the NE-10 semifinals at Merkert Gymnasium on Friday evening. 

New Haven, who has earned the top seed, will host the East Regional at Charger Gymnasium in New Haven, Conn. The winner of the Thursday's first round match will face the winner of New Haven's (21-6, 15-0 NE-10) matchup against eighth-seeded Pace University (20-10, 10-5) on Friday, November 18. The East Regional Final will be played on Saturday. 

The remaining first round matchups include: second-seeded Dowling (27-4, 13-1 ECC), the East Coast Conference (ECC) Tournament champions, and seventh-seeded Caldwell (26-4, 18-1 CACC), the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament champions and third-seeded Bridgeport (18-7, 10-4 ECC) against sixth-seeded New York Institute of Technology (19-8, 11-2 ECC). 

The winner of the East Region will advance to the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals, which will be held on Thursday, December 1, against the winner of the South Region.
