EASTON - For the second year in a row, the Stonehill College women's volleyball team will be digging pink to raise money for breast cancer during its matches against Adelphi University at 7 p.m. Friday and Pace University at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Stonehill Head Coach Lauren Amundson is looking to trump last year's earnings.

"Last year we raised $345, and we're already at $260 for this year," she said. "The goal is to raise at least $500. Donations will be collected during both of this weekend's matches, and online through the end of October."

Amundson said members of her team, along with Stonehill's spirit committee, have been working to get the word out, including creating posters and signs and organizing "giveaways."

Not to mention, the weekend could stir some excitement from a competitive standpoint. Stonehill sits at first place in the conference at 21-3 and 9-0 in the NorthEast-10. Adelphi is currently in 3rd (6-2) and Pace in 6th (5-3).

The Dig Pink endeavor isn't the only thing her team does to "give back," Amundson said. The volleyball team has made it a priority to be involved in charitable and community events.

"As a team, we like to be involved in as many ways as we can - especially if we can give back," she said. "We've volunteered at the Easton Childrens Museum, participated in Mass. Walk to School Day last year, and we also volunteer as Big Sisters in Brockton. It's part of the education of the whole person, and the girls enjoy doing it.

"I also recently lost a close family friend to cancer, so I want to do my part to fight the disease. With a group of young women, it's important that they are aware of the risks."

For Dig Pink, the team is encouraging members of the community to come out and wear pink Friday night and Saturday. Additionally, the team will be wearing pink warm-up uniforms and pink ribbons during the match. Both Pace and Adelphi will also done pink in their attire.
