Stonehill Keeps Rolling With 3-1 Triumph Over Le Moyne

Skyhawks winners of eight out of their last 10 matches                

SYRACUSE, N.Y (October 16, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team continued to roll in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Sunday afternoon defeating Le Moyne College, 3-1, by scores of 31-29, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-18 at Ted Grant Court.

Stonehill, winners of eight out of their last 10 matches, improve to 20-3 overall and 8-0 in NE-10 play this season. The Skyhawks last 20-win season dates back to 2008 as Stonehill went 21-11 overall and 8-6 in conference action. Le Moyne falls to 11-10 overall and 1-7 in the NE-10.

Senior outside hitter Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) paced the Skyhawks offensively with a match-high 17 kills, including six in the first set, to go along with one assist, one service ace and four digs.

Sophomore right-side hitter Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) added nine kills and seven blocks (one solo) while freshman setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) piloted the offense with a match-high 45 assists, one kill, two block assists and eight digs. Junior libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) contributed match-highs in digs (18) and service aces (six).

For Le Moyne, junior outside hitter Bethany Fabian (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) compiled the only double-double of the match with 14 kills and 14 digs. Fabian also added two assists, two service aces and four blocks (one solo). Classmate and outside hitter Allison Hebel (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) put down 10 kills, one service ace, six digs and one block assist while junior middle hitter Morgan McDermott (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) recorded 13 kills, one assist, one service ace, four digs and four block assists.

Freshman setter Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) facilitated the offense with 40 assists, two kills, one service ace, nine digs and three block assists.

In the first set down 28-27, Huselton and Kelly gave the Skyhawks a slim lead, 29-28, as Husleton finished on a nice feed from Iverson and Kelly followed with her third service ace of the set. After both teams exchanged errors to push the score to 30-29 in favor of Stonehill, Huselton put down her sixth kill, assisted by Iverson, to close out the set.

In set four, Stonehill went on the offensive recording set-highs in kills (15) and hitting percentage (.231) to put Le Moyne away.

Tied 10-10, freshman middle blocker Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) took over for the Skyhawks notching four kills during a 9-4 run giving Stonehill some cushion room. Later in the set, Huselton secured the victory tallying two kills within the last four points of the match including set point for the second time on the afternoon.
