Iverson, Maxey Recognized By NE-10 For Second-Straight Week

Freshman-sophomore combination guides Stonehill to 3-0 week overall

EASTON, Mass. (October 4, 2011) – Two members of the Stonehill College women's volleyball team have earned weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), it was announced earlier today. Freshman setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) was named the Rookie of the Week for the third straight week while sophomore outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) earned her second-straight Player of the Week award.

Iverson guided a Sky­hawks offense that went 3-0 overall averaging 10.3 assists per set in three matches played (10 sets). In a 3-1 win over Assump­tion, Iverson filled the stat sheet posting 42 assists, four kills and 12 digs. On the week, the freshman setter compiled 103 assists, 10 kills, 21 digs, one service ace and three blocks.

Iverson now has six awards total through five reporting periods – the most among any athlete in the NE-10 – garnering Setter of the Week accolades twice (Sept. 7 and Sept. 20) in addition to her four Rookie of the Week awards (Sept. 13, Sept. 20 and Sept. 27).

On the season, Iverson is averaging 10.2 assists per set (631 assists total), 2.13 digs per set (134 digs total) and is only one of four players on the squad to play in all 63 sets. Iverson has also contributed 14 kills, 24 service aces and 14 blocks (10 assist) on the year.

Maxey was just as pivotal to Stonehill's perfect 3-0 week overall tallying 3.4 kills per set and 3.7 digs per set in three matches played (nine sets). Against Assumption College on Wednesday, Maxey posted her ninth double-double of the season to lift the Skyhawks to a 3-1 triumph with a match-high 15 kills and 14 digs in just three sets.

In 59 sets played, Maxey leads Stonehill in kills per set averaging 3.53 (208 kills total) and digs per set averaging 4.17 (246 digs total). The sophomore outside hitter has also added 17 assists, 20 service aces and 14 blocks (nine assist).

The Skyhawks (16-2, 4-0 NE-10) return to action on Saturday, October 8 in a tri-match hosted by Southern New Hampshire University. Stonehill takes on the Penmen in a NE-10 contest at 1 p.m. and Dowling College in non-conference play at 3 p.m.
