Stonehill Sweeps Opening Night Of RAM Fest

Skyhawks take both matches by 3-0 scores at West Chester University

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (September 9, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team swept a pair of non-conference matches on day one of the West Chester University RAM Fest at Hollinger Fieldhouse on Friday night. The Skyhawks defeated Lincoln (Pa.), 3-0, by scores of 25-7, 25-11, and 25-8. In the nightcap, Stonehill posted a 3-0 triumph over Chestnut Hill by scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-11.

Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Sperando (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led all players with eight kills (.538) and freshman setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) turned in a 30-assist performance to lead the Skyhawks offense.

Freshman defensive specialist Mary Nelson (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) chipped in with seven of Stonehill's 20 service aces on the evening and six digs while Sophomore Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) aided the offense with seven kills for a .500 hitting percentage.a

Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) paced the Skyhawks offensively with a match-high 12 kills on 14 attempts (.857%), two service aces, eight digs and one block solo.

Iverson facilitated the offense dishing out 31 assists while Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) had seven kills and senior outside hitter Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) contributed five kills, six digs and one block assist.

Stonehill (5-1, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow in day two of the West Chester University RAM Fest against Philadelphia University at noon and LIU-C.W. Post at 2 p.m.
