Stonehill Splits At Kutztown University Classic

Skyhawks fall to host Golden Bears, defeat the University of the Sciences

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 3, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference volleyball matches on day two of the Kutztown University Classic on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena. The Skyhawks fell to the Golden Bears, 3-2, by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 19-25, 13-15, and swept match two of the day over the Devils, 3-0, by scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-11.

Freshman setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) posted a career-high and match-high 37 assists to go along with 15 digs for the Skyhawks in the loss. Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Texas) notched Stonehill's only double-double compiling 12 kills and a match-high 35 digs.

Senior middle hitter Katie Lutz (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle Antrim) tied for the lead in kills with 12 on 20 total attacks, four digs, one block solo and five block assists to pace Kutztown. Junior setters' Dana Wright (Warminster, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, Pa./Washington) engineered the offense combining for 41 of the team's 44 assists (Wright 21, Gomber 20).

Senior outside hitter Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) led all Skyhawks with 11 kills alongside nine digs. Iverson picked up 29 assists in the sweep of the University of the Sciences while freshman Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) turned in 8 kills (.462) and seven digs.

Stonehill (2-1, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday, September 6 at Merkert Gymnasium in a Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) showdown with Merrimack scheduled for 7 p.m.
