Northeast-10 Conference Announces Outdoor Track & Field Major Awards

EASTON, Mass. (June 11, 2019) – The Stonehill College cross country and track & field head coach Karen Boen has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Boen, who is in her 22nd season in charge of the Skyhawks, has totaled 64 Coach of the Year awards, four of them being the NE10 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year. She led the women's team to their fourth-straight NE10 outdoor title in early May and 20 All-Conference nods in the two-day meet. The Skyhawks came from behind after being second on day one and combined for 185 points, while Assumption College wasn't far behind with 169 points taking home second place, and Southern Connecticut totaled 83 points for third place.

Following the NE10 Outdoor Championship, Boen earned her fifth U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year honor.

With the women's fourth-straight NE10 Outdoor Championship under their belt, the Skyhawks have won 12-straight Championships including cross country, indoor, and outdoor track & field. Over the past 18 NE10 Championships, Stonehill women have won 17.

On the women's side, Stonehill saw two individuals provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, including senior Olivia Dexter in the 100-meter run and junior Madison Ward in the high jump. Ward sits 22nd on the performance list and will represent the women Skyhawks at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas, hosted by Texas A & M University, Kingsville.

Boen has collected 12-straight women's NE10 Championships including cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field

During the indoor season, Boen earned her fifth-straight U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year in early March and her fifth-straight NE10 Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year award after taking home the program's sixth-straight NE10 Indoor title.

During cross country season, Boen was tabbed USTFCCCA Men's and Women's Cross Country East Region Coach of the Year and NE10 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. She led the men to their fifth NCAA Division II East Region title and the women to their 17th NE10 title and 10th-straight crown this fall, including the program's fourth-straight individual title with junior Anna Lastra. This was the third time in Conference history that a program saw four-straight individual titles, with Springfield College leading the way with six-straight from 1987-92.

In 2017, Boen saw the fifth year that she tallied both the men's and women's NE10 Coach of the Year Award in cross country, the other years include: 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2004. Boen's success extends beyond the conference level, however, she has also collected East Region Coach of the Year Honors for all six teams. Overall, her resume includes 62 NE10 and East Region Coach of the Year Awards, 36 NE10 Championships, and 18 East Region Championships across the six teams she is in charge of. Boen, who was inducted into the Stonehill Hall of Fame in 2014, has overseen the development of 72 All-Americans and four fellow Hall of Fame inductees.
