17 from Women’s Track & Field Combine to Earn 25 USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

EASTON, Massachusetts (March 17, 2019) – Seventeen members of the Stonehill College women's track and field team combined for 25 All-East Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA), announced this week.

The awards recognize each region's top five performers in individual events and top three teams in relay events. The Northeast-10 Conference led the way with 185 honors, as Stonehill's women totaled 25 and the men earned five, as senior Olivia Dexter led Stonehill with three honors.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team that took home 10th at the New England Outdoor Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, was the second Division II team to cross the finish line. The quartet which was comprised of Dexter, Claire Hurtado, Ashley Colarusso, and Krista Fernandes clocked in a season best time of 3:56.26.

Dexter earned two more All-East Region honors to cap off her career with recognitions in the 100-meter and 200-meter runs along with the relay team, bringing her career total to 15. The senior sprinter capped off her career as a Skyhawk with back to back titles in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the NE10 Outdoor Championship and then again at the New England Outdoor Championship. She broke her previous school records in both events at the New England Championship with a time of 11.88-seconds in the 100-meter run and 24.60-seconds in the 200-meter run, while she provisionally qualified in the 100-meter run sitting 48th on the performance list.

Six other Skyhawks earned two honors each, including Fernandes, Colarusso, Sophia Anderle, Alyssa Freeman, Anna Lastra, and Shayla Lyons . Fernandes brings her four-year total to 11 as she was part of the 4x400-meter relay team and earned an honor for the 400-meter hurdles. The senior clocked in a career best time of 1:03.59 in the 400-meter hurdles, where she was .08-seconds off the current school record.

Colarusso brings her career total to eight after adding two during indoor season. The junior was part of the 4x400-meter relay team at the New England Championships that took 10th for a season best time. She also earned her second NE10 Championship title in the pole vault with a season best height of 11 feet, 5.75 inches for her first NE10 Outdoor title. Pole vault teammate and sophomore Alexandra Sexton earned her fourth-straight All-East Region honor in the event with her season best clearance of 10 feet, 8 inches at the Colonial Relays.

Anderle, who picked up her first-career All-Region honor during indoor season, tallied two during outdoor season in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 5000-meter run. The sophomore posted career best times in both events, as she clocked in a time of 11:15.57 at the Holy Cross Invitational and 18:12.37 at the Colonial Relays.

Freeman has now totaled four All-Region honors for track & field, with her two from this past outdoor season. She ran career best times in the 1500-meter and 800-meter runs at the NE10 Outdoor Championships where she took an All-Conference honor for the 800-meter run and was fourth in the 1500-meter run. The junior clocked in a time of 4:41.19 in the 1500-meter and 2:15.15 in the 800-meter runs.

Lastra added two to her career total for 13 with two cross country awards. Freeman's classmate also earned her two honors in the 1500-meter and 800-meter runs, as Lastra earned an All-Conference honor in the 1500-meter with her time of 4:40.45 and saw a new career best of 2:16.05 in the 800-meter. She beat her time from the NE10 Championships in the 1500-meter run at the New England Championships for a new season best time of 4:40.40.

Lyons tallied her sixth-career accolade, as she broke school records in both the shot put and discus this season. Both career bests came at the New England Championships as she took home two All-New England honors as well. She threw the discus a distance of 141 feet, 7 inches for third place, while she reached a measurement of 43 feet, 7.25 inches in the shot put for a seventh place finish.

Hurtado has now been a part of four 4x400-meter relay teams that have earned All-Region teams. The junior also helped the relay team post an All-Conference performance at the NE10 Indoor and Outdoor Championships this school year.

Senior Makenzie Cyr and sophomore Samantha Curtin saw their name on the All-Region list for the 10,000-meter run as they both saw career best times at the NE10 Championships. Cyr has now earned her fourth track & field recognition with her time of 38:31.88 and Curtin tallied her first track & field honor with her time of 38:25.07.

Junior Jordan Callahan earned her fourth-career All-East Region honor with her career best time in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She saw her first-career NE10 All-Conference honor at the NE10 Championships with her time of 11:12.86 finishing as the second-place competitor in the event.

Senior Colleen Perry broke her previous school record in the heptathlon totaling 4,113 points earning her third-career All-East Region award. She broke her previous record at the NE10 Outdoor Championship, where she just missed out on an All-Conference honor taking home fourth place.

Junior Zoe Smith saw a career best time in the 100-meter hurdles at the New England Championship where she just missed out on an All-New England honor with a ninth-place finish with a time of 14.53-seconds.

Madison Ward earned her sixth-straight All-East Region honor in the high jump with a NCAA provisionally qualifying height of 5 feet, 7.75 inches. She cleared this at the NE10 Outdoor Championship where she took home her first Conference title and third All-Conference honor. Teammate Kathleen Giusti earned her first-career All-East Region honor with her career best height in the high jump clearing a mark of 5 feet, 5 inches at the Ocean State Invitational.

Freshman Krista Stracqualursi earned her first-career All-East Region honor with a career best toss in the discus of 130 feet, 4 inches at the Holy Cross Invitational.

Stonehill concluded the indoor season with their fourth-straight NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship, where the women have now won 12-straight Championships with cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. Over the past 18 NE10 Championships, the Stonehill women have won 17 of them.
