Dexter Leads Women’s Track & Field in Day Two of Ocean State Invitational

Dexter earns Skyhawks only individual title in 100-meter dash

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (April 13, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track and field wrapped up day two of the Ocean State Invitational with one individual title and three New England qualifying marks on Saturday at Ray Treacy Track.

Senior Olivia Dexter earned the Skyhawks their one individual title on in the two-day meet as she clocked in at 12.05-seconds in the 100-meter dash. This time is just .12-seconds off the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time. Junior Sinead O'Brien was the next Purple & White across the finish line with a time of 12.89-seconds, taking home third out of 23 competitors.

Dexter also placed third out of 34 competitors in the 200-meter run clocking in a time of 24.83-seconds, just .50-seconds off the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time. O'Brien once again followed, taking 16th overall with her time of 26.32.

Dexter, in her third event of the day, finished 10th out of 15 in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 0.75 inches.

Junior Zoe Smith was one of three New England Championship qualifying marks for the Skyhawks this weekend, as she finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.87-seconds. Senior Krista Fernandes was the other Skyhawk to make finals in the event as she finished 15.74-seconds, finishing sixth. Freshmen Abigail Creamer and Savanna Macaluso finished in the top 10 taking home ninth and 10th, respectively. Creamer clocked in a time of 15.80-seconds, while Macaluso ran a time of 16.02-seconds.

Fernandes also competed in the 400-meter hurdles, as she placed sixth out of 13 competitors with a time of 1:05.75.

Juniors Madison Ward and Kathleen Giusti cleared a height of 5 feet, 5 inches in the high jump, as Ward finished second out of 16 competitors. Giusti, with a New England Championship qualifying mark, finished third in the field.


Lyons qualified for New England's for the second time this season with her sixth place finish in the shot put

Junior Shayla Lyons was the third Skyhawk to compete in an event and qualify for the New England Championships. Lyons tossed the shot put a distance of 41 feet, 3.75 inches, finished sixth of 12 competitors. She was the non-Division I competitor to place in the top 10. Classmate Elizabeth Balzarini rounded out the top 10 for the Skyhawks with a mark of 38 feet, 9.5 inches finishing eighth overall.

Lyons, who has previously qualified for the New England Championships in the discus, was the runner up at the meet with her measurement of 136 feet, 11 inches. Stonehill saw three others place in the top 10, including Krista Stracqualursi in fourth (129 feet), Jesica Litwa in fifth (120 feet, 8 inches), and Balzarini in 10th (108 feet, 7 inches).

Junior Ashley Colarusso finished third out of 13 in the pole vault as she cleared a height of 10 feet, 11.75 inches.

The Skyhawks head to Worcester, Massachusetts for the Holy Cross Invitational on Saturday, April 20, hosted by the College of Holy Cross at the Hart Turf Field & Hart Track. Stonehill will host its annual Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday, April 27 at W.B. Mason Stadium.
