Perry Breaks School Record, Women’s Track and Field Competes at Ocean State Invitational

Perry breaks own school record in heptathlon at Northeast Combined Events Challenge

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (April 12, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team saw senior Colleen Perry compete at the two-day Northeast Combined Events Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, and the rest of the team competed at day one of the Ocean State Invitational hosted by Providence College.

Perry, at the end of day one events for the heptathlon, totaled 2,517 points after four events to sit seventh out of the 17 competitors. She kicked off the competition with a season best time of 16.17-seconds in the 100-meter hurdles taking eighth out of the 17 competitors. Out of the 17, there were four other Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes. In the next event of the high jump, she cleared a height of 5 feet, 0.25 inches tying for sixth place, followed by another eighth-place finish in the shot put tossing the shot put a career best distance of 31 feet, 3 inches. She wrapped up day one with a 27.51-seconds 200-meter dash finishing 11th overall, just .02 shy of her career best time.

On day two, the senior jumped a career best measurement of 15 feet, 8.75 inches in the long jump, good for 13th place, as she finished seventh in the javelin with a mark of 78 feet, 10 inches. In the 800-meter event, the final task for the competitors, she clocked in a time of 2:32.65 finishing fourth out of the field for her best mark of the day. Her total of 4,044 points broke her previous school record of 4,027 which was set last year at the NE10 Championships and she landed ninth in the field, as Assumption's Abigail Jones led the way with the title and 4,757 points.

Ocean State Invitational
Senior Jillian Caiazzi led the Skyhawks with her 800-meter run time finishing 24th of 51 competitors clocking in a time of 2:19.15. This time ranks her second on the NE10 performance list. Classmate Adrienne Santoro followed with her career best time of 2:22.74 in the 800-meter run taking home 31st overall, as her time is 12th on the NE10 list.


Lastra finished in the top 20 with her time of 5:02.74 in the mile as the first Division II competitor to finish

Junior Anna Lastra was the first Purple & White across the finish line in the mile run finishing with a time of 5:02.74, good for 18th overall. Classmate Alyssa Freeman followed her taking home 26th of 65 competitors clocking in at 5:07.75, as Jillian Howard was the next Skyhawk to finish with a time of 5:16.87 placing 35th overall. Kelly Higgins finished in the top 40 of the mile with her time of 5:19.58 finishing 39th overall.

Junior Shayla Lyons took home fourth out of 13 competitors in the hammer throw finishing as the first Division II competitor in the field. Lyons tossed a mark of 132 feet, 5 inches as she sits eighth on the NE10 performance list. Sophomore Jesica Litwa placed seventh with her mark of 124 feet, 3 inches.

The Skyhawks will continue competing in the Ocean State Invitational, tomorrow, Saturday, April 13 at the Ray Treacy Track hosted by Providence College and Brown University with a start time of 11:00 a.m.
