Women’s Track & Field Concludes 54th Colonial Relays

Colarusso finishes second out of 18 competitors in the pole vault


Lyons was one of four Skyhawks to take home a top-10 result as she placed sixth out of 31 competitors

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia (April 6, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track and field wrapped up the 54th Colonial Relays, hosted by College of William & Mary, taking home 21st place out of 38 teams.

The Skyhawks saw four top-10 finishes during the final day of the meet, including from Ashley Colarusso, Alexandra Sexton, Shayla Lyons, and the 4000-meter distance medley relay team.

Junior Colarusso led the Skyhawks with a second-place finish in the pole vault clearing a height of 11 feet, 1.75 inches. Sophomore Sexton followed her, taking home fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, 8 innings.

In the discus throw, Lyons placed sixth out of 31 at the Colonial Relays this weekend tossing it a mark of 123 feet, 4 inches. Jesica Litwa was the next Skyhawk in the discus throw, taking home 15th with a mark of 114 feet, 11 inches, as Elizabeth Balzarini placed 20th with a mark of 112 feet, 3 inches.

The 4000-meter distance medley relay team including Jillian Howard, Jillian Caiazzi, Anna Lastra, and Alyssa Freeman placed ninth out of 27 teams. The Skyhawks were the first non-Division I team to cross the finish line as they clocked in a time of 12:15.75. Howard ran an unofficial opening 1200-meter leg in 3:47.4, as she handed the baton to Caiazzi who ran the 400-meter led in an unofficial time of 1:02.4. Sophomore Lastra clocked in the 800-meter leg with an unofficial time of 2:17.3 and Freeman crossed the finish line with her unofficial time of 5:07.8 in the mile anchor leg.

Balzarini finished 18th out of 30 competitors in the shot put tossing a distance of 36 feet, 7.75 inches.

The 4x100-meter team consisting of Sinead O'Brien, Zoe Smith, Colarusso, and Olivia Dexter place 15th out of 26 teams. The quartet clocked in a time of 49.75, just 2.55-seconds away from tying the school record which was set last year in the NE10 Outdoor Championships.

The Skyhawks will send competitors to the Northeast Combined Events Challenge on Thursday, May 11 to Friday, May 12, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Connecticut. From Friday to Saturday, April 13, Stonehill will also compete in the Ocean State Invitational hosted by Brown University and Providence College on Friday and Saturday.
