Northeast 10 Indoor Track and Field Report: Week 6

EASTON, Mass. (February 6, 2019) – The Stonehill College's women's track and field 4000-meter distance medley relay team was named Northeast-10 Conference Relay Team of the Week after bypassing the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time this weekend.

The quartet included seniors Jillian Caiazzi and Krista Fernandes, and juniors Alyssa Freeman and Anna Lastra. The relay team finished second among 13 teams at the New England Intercollegiate Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center. Their second-place finsh at the New England Championships, earned them All-New England honors, Caiazzi's sixth in her career, Fernandes' fourth in her career, Freeman's third in her career, and Lastra's fourth in her career.

The squad posted a time of 11:58.46, bypassing the NCAA Division II indoor qualifying time for the first time this season. Their second-place finish was 12-seconds behind Division I winner the University of Vermont. Currently their time puts them seventh on the performance list for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, which would take place Friday, March 8-Saturday, March 9 at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas, hosted by Pittsburg State University. This time also places them first on the NE10 performance list, 32-seconds ahead of second-place Assumption College.

Freeman was the lead leg as she ran an unofficial 3:40.4 1200-meter leg, followed by Fernandes who ran the second leg of 400 meters in an unofficial 58.9-seconds. Caiazzi ran the third leg and clocked in an unofficial time of 2:15.6 for the 800-meter leg, while Lastra anchored the relay with an unofficial 5:03.8 mile leg.

Stonehill will send individuals to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, February 8, hosted by Boston University, while the team will compete at the URI Coaches' Tribute Meet, hosted by the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, February 9 at the Mackal Fieldhouse.
