Women’s Track & Field Totals Three Honors at New England Championships

Dexter earned her ninth-career All-New England honor with a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash

DORCHESTER, Massachusetts (February 2, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team saw one more All-New England performance on day two, for a total of three in the weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.

After placing first in the preliminary round of the 60-meter dash on day one of the Championships, senior Olivia Dexter placed first in the semifinal round with a school record time of 7.63-seconds. This time also moved her up on the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships qualifying list tying her for 21st place. She then finished first in the finals clocking in at 7.69-seconds, behind Brown University's Zion Lewis (7.64-seconds). This is her ninth-career All-New England honor, fourth indoor, and third for the 60-meter dash.

Along with competing in the 4000-meter distance medley relay on day one, junior Anna Lastra, competed in the mile on day two clocking in a time of 5:08.32. She placed ninth in her section and ninth overall, just missing out on an All-New England honor.

Junior Zoe Smith finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary round on day one, and placed seventh in her heat in the semifinals with a time of 9.17-seconds finishing 14th overall.

Junior Shayla Lyons took home 20th overall in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet.

With its three All-New England honors, the Skyhawks finished 12th out of 27 teams totaling 17 points, while Northeastern University won the Championship with 162 points, Darmouth University took home second with 80 points, and Boston College finished third with 71 points. 

Next weekend, the Skyhawks will compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, February 8, hosted by Boston University, and the URI Coaches' Tribute Meet on Saturday, February 9, hosted by the University of Rhode Island before preparing for the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Championships from Saturday, February 16 to Sunday, February 17 at Smith College Indoor Track in Northampton, Massachusetts.
