DMR earned fourth-straight All-New England honor for the program

DORCHESTER, Massachusetts (February 1, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team saw two All-New England honors to highlight day one of the New England Intercollegiate Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center today.
Stonehill currently sits 10th out of 22 teams with ninth points.
Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay finished in second place for its fourth-straight All-New England honor. The quartet comprised of Alyssa Freeman, Krista Fernandes, Jillian Caiazzi, Anna Lastra, who clocked in a time of 11:58.46, which currently sits sixth in the country on the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying list. Freeman was the lead leg as she ran an unofficial 3:40.4 1200-meter run, followed by Fernandes who ran the second leg of 400 meters in an unofficial 58.9-seconds. Caiazzi ran the third leg and clocked in a time of 2:15.6 for the 800-meter leg, while Lastra anchored the relay with a 5:03.8 mile leg.
In the high jump, junior Madison Ward cleared a height of 5 feet, 5.25 inches in her second New England Indoor Championships appearance. This mark gave her her second All-New England honor taking home eighth place, after earning her first in outdoor season last year. Sophomore Jessydoris Iwuala placed 12th overall with her height of 5 feet, 3.25 inches.
Senior Olivia Dexter qualified for her fourth-straight New England indoor 60-meter dash semifinal event, as she clocked in a time of 7.86-seconds. This time was enough for first place in her heat and first place overall. The senior just missed out on qualifying for the final round of the 200-meter run with her time of 25.33, finishing ninth out of 32 competitors.

Junior Zoe Smith qualified for her first 60-meter hurdles semifinal after finishing second in her heat with a career best time of 9.08-seconds. This time placed her eighth out of 29 competitors. Sophomore Casey Gannon also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.28, good for 21st, while freshman Savanna Macaluso appeared in her first New England Championship taking home 23rd with a time of 9.37-seconds.
Fernandes also ran in the 400-meter run, crossing the finish line in 58.16-seconds. Her time placed her third in her heat and 14th out of 32 competitors.
In the pole vault, sophomore Alexandra Sexton placed 12th overall after she cleared a height of 11 feet, 1.75 inches, a career best, while junior Ashley Colarusso finished 16th with her height of 10 feet, 8 inches.
Stonehill continues competing at the New England Championship tomorrow, Saturday, February 2 at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.
