Dexter matches her career best at Rhode Island

KINGSTON, Rhode Island (January 19, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team competed at the URI Sorlein Invitational on Saturday at the Mackal Fieldhouse.
Senior Olivia Dexter won her heat with a time of 7.67-seconds, qualifying her for finals in the 60-meter dash, as she crossed the finish line in 7.66-seconds, .01 seconds faster than the runner-up. This time matched her career high and school record that she broke in December.
Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team composed of Casey Gannon, Dexter, Fiona Jordan, and Krista Fernandes, clocked in a time of 4:05.67, taking home fourth out of 10 teams, and finishing as the first Division II relay team.
Junior Zoe Smith also matched a career best at the team's third meet of the season. Smith clocked in a time of 9.19-seconds at both the 60-meter hurdles preliminary and finals event, while taking home seventh out of 28 competitors. Sophomore Gannon placed third in her heat with a time of 9.34-seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, and finished 10th overall.
Sophomore Alexandra Sexton and junior Ashley Colarusso both cleared a height of 10 feet, 8 inches at the pole vault, as Sexton finished fourth out of 12 competitors and Colarusso finished sixth.
Shayla Lyons finished in the top-10 in the shot put finals tossing the rock 41 feet, 7.25 inches. The junior finished fifth overall and threw the farthest among all Division II competitors. Lyons also competed in the 20lb weight throw placing 13th out of 21 competitors reaching a distance of 43 feet, 10.75 inches.

Sophomores Kathleen Giusti and Jessydoris Iwuala and senior Ashley Daggett all placed in the top 10 of the high jump clearing a height of 5 feet, 2.25 inches. Giusti and Iwuala finished fifth among 17 competitors, while Dagget placed ninth overall.
In the 800-meter run, two of the Skyhawks finished in the top-10 including junior Alyssa Freeman and Kelly Higgins. Freeman placed sixth as the first Division II competitor, clocking in a time of 2:22.70, while Higgins finished ninth out of 21 with a time of 2:26.32.
Stonehill is back in action next Saturday, January 26 when the team splits time between the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, and the Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University
