Women’s Track & Field Competes at Beantown Challenge

 Smith qualifies for New England's with a career best time in the 60-meter hurdles

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (January 12, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team continued their indoor schedule with the Beantown Challenge, hosted by Harvard University, as the only non-Division I program at Gordon Indoor Track today.

After finishing fourth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.71-seconds, senior Olivia Dexter took home fifth in the finals with a time of 7.71-seconds. Dexter also finished seventh out of 56 competitors in the 200-meter run with a time of 25.38.

Sophomore Jessydoris Iwuala tied for sixth in the high jump clearing a height of 5 feet, 3.25 inches for a season best, as senior Ashley Daggett also cleared 5 feet, 3.25 inches taking home ninth out of 26 competitors also clearing a season best height.

Senior Krista Fernandes was the next Skyhawk across the finish line in the 200-meter run clocking in a time of 26.07-seconds finishing 22nd overall.

In the mile run, Anna Lastra clocked in the best time for the Skyhawks, as she was the first Purple & White across the finish line with a time of 5:08.70, taking home 11th out of 29 competitors. Senior Jillian Caiazzi was next across the line with a time of 5:10.11, finishing 12th.

Sophomore Sophia Anderle led the way in the 3000-meter run for the Skyhawks as she placed 13th out of 27 and finished as the first Division II competitor with a time of 10:30.67 for a career best time.

Junior Zoe Smith just missed out on qualifying for finals in the 60-meter hurdles as she placed ninth out of 28 competitors with a time of 9.19-seconds with a career best time. Sophomore Casey Gannon  also saw her career best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.32, finishing 16th overall.

The Stonehill 4x800-meter relay team finished sixth out of 11 teams, clocking in a time of 9:48.20. The team was made up of Alyssa FreemanLastra, Claire Masonand Caiazzi.

Shayla Lyons threw the shot put a distance of 40 feet, 5.5 inches on her third throw. She was the first Division II competitor, placing 12th out of the 25 that participated.

Stonehill is back in action next Saturday, when it competes at the URI Sorlien Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island at the Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, Rhode Island starting at 11:00 a.m.
