Northeast-10 Conference Announces Outdoor Track & Field Major Awards
EASTON, Mass. (July 10, 2018) – Karen Boen, head coach for the Stonehill College men's and women's track and field programs was named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference last week.
Boen, who is in her 21st season in charge of the Stonehill College men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track & field programs, has totaled 58 Coach of the Year awards among three seasons and six teams. She most recently led the women's outdoor track & field team to its third-straight outdoor NE10 Championship, and fourth in program history.
In late May, Boen notched her 57th Coach of the Year award, as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recognized her as the Women's Outdoor East Regional Coach of the Year.
The 2017-18 outdoor season was kicked off with multiple season and personal bests, where the team had two weekends off following the indoor season. The women were impressive at the 53rd Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia where there were 14 top-10 marks finishing 21st out of 42 teams. The squad earned their first team title at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College dominating the competition with 189 points, 100 points over the second-place Tufts University.
Stonehill collected back-to-back third-place finishes at the Holy Cross Invitational and their own Skyhawk Invitational before defending their title at the NE10 Outdoor Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. Collecting its fourth crown in five years and third-straight outdoor championship, the women combined for 248 points, 24 All-Conference honors over the two-day Championship, six school records broken, and five individual event winners. The Skyhawks have now won nine-straight NE10 titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field, and 14 of the last 15 titles since 2013.
At the New England Championship, Boen coached eight All-New England performances, including junior Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) garnering three of the eight, bringing her total to eight for her career.

Boen sent Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina where she tallied her first-career All-America honor taking home 11th in the pole vault after qualifying for the second time in her career.
Around the middle of February, Stonehill competed at the NE10 Indoor Championships and took home its fifth-straight indoor title, matching the NE10 record for consecutive indoor wins, tying the University of Massachusetts Lowell who won the title from 2002-06. Boen also coached 15 All-Conference honors at the Championship, while she also saw four individual titles among the team and earned her 56th NE10 Coach of the Year honor.
Earlier, she received her 55th Coach of the Year honor, as she was recognized by the USTFCCCA as the East Regional Women's Indoor Coach of the Year.
Boen was also named USTFCCCA Men's Cross Country East Region Coach of the Year, and NE10 men's and women's Coach of the Year after seeing both programs win the conference championship. This was the fourth year that she tallied both the men's and women's Coach of the Year Awards in cross country, the other years included: 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2004. Boen's success extends beyond conference level as she has collected East Region Coach of the Year awards for all six teams. Overall, her resume includes 57 NE10/USTFCCCA East Region Coach of the Year Awards, 31 NE10 Championships, and 18 East Region Championships across six teams. Boen, who was inducted into the Stonehill Hall of Fame in 2014, has overseen the development of over 50 All-Americans and three Hall of Fame inductees.
