Tobin named All American for first Skyhawk woman to earn it in the field

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina. (May 24, 2018) – Women's Track & Field senior Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) finished 11th in the pole vault for the first Stonehill woman to earn All-America status in the field at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, North Carolina, hosted by the Johnson C. Smith University.
Heading into competition, Tobin was ranked 12th out of 24 competitors with her personal best of 12 feet, 9 inches which she cleared at the 2018 NE10 Outdoor Championships in early May.
Courtney McQuaide, from Slippery Rock was named the champion of pole vault this year, as she was unable to clear 13 feet, 3.5 inches, but just slipped by runner-up Emily Presley who also didn't clear the height. The next five competitors did not clear 12 feet, 11.5 inches but topped the rest of the competition. Tobin was one of six competitors to not clear the third progression but was able to slide into a spot on the All-American second team for her first-career mark.
Out of the 24 competitors, seven passed the first height of 11 feet, 11.75 inches, while Tobin was able to clear the bar on her second jump. Out of the 17 that attempted the height, 11 moved on to the next progression.
Twelve of the 15 that jumped the second height of 12 feet, 3.5 inches were able to move on to the third round. Tobin was unable to clear the bar on her first jump, but was successful on her second.
At a height of 12 feet, 7.5 inches, Tobin did not clear the bar in her three attempts, as seven of the 15 that jumped moved on to the fourth progression of 12 feet, 11.5 inches.

Tobin wrapped up the season qualifying for both indoor and outdoor NCAA Division II Championships bypassing the provisional mark. She was also named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-East Region team during both seasons for the pole vault, along with the 4x100-meter team during the outdoor season. At the New England Championships, Tobin collected her first- and second-career All-New England honors making top eight in the pole vault and the 4x100-meter relay team. In both seasons, the Hudson, Massachusetts native was named the NE10 individual champion in the pole vault, while also assisting the 4x100-meter relay team to its first title in program history during outdoor season. She combined for three All-Conference honors throughout the NE10 Championships.
Previously, she has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. During the 2018 indoor season, she was named to the NE10 Academic All-Conference team. She also holds the indoor school record with a mark of 11 feet, 10 inches set back at the BU Last Chance Meet and the outdoor school record with a clearance of 12 feet, 9 inches at the NE10 Championship. Along with the two All-East honors this year, she earned a third during her sophomore season and was also the 2016 NE10 pole vault champion.
The Stonehill women's track and field team captured its fourth Northeast-10 Outdoor Championship in program history and followed that up with a ninth-place finish at the New England Championships. The Skyhawk women have now won nine-straight NE10 Championships, including cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field and have combined for 14 of the last 15 championships since 2013.
