4x100-relay team breaks school record

EASTON, Mass. (April 28, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team finished third at the 11th Annual Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday at W.B. Mason Stadium totaling 131.83 points, while Boston College took home first with 167 points.
The 4x100-meter relay broke the previous school record, while Alison Tobin matched her previous school record in the pole vault. Five events saw participants qualify for New England's.
Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) clocked in at 12.18-seconds in the 100-meter dash taking home second place, while Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) finished 10th in 12.79-seconds and Sinead O'Brien (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) was close behind in 12th with a time of 12.80-seconds.
Dexter took home the title in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 25.22-seconds and Polvere finished in fourth with a time of 25.74-seconds. O'Brien finished 14th with a time of 26.53-seconds.
Freshman Fiona Jordan (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) was the first Division II competitor across the finish line in the 400-meter run, clocking in a time of 58.96-seconds, good for seventh place.
Senior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) was the first Division II competitor across the finish line in the 1500-meter run taking home fourth with a time of 4:38.96 and qualifying for New Englands in her second event . Sophomore Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) followed in fifth place finishing the event in 4:39.70. Junior Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) was the last Skyhawk to take home a top-10 finish in the 1500 meter, running in 4:46.71, placing eighth.
Taking home sixth in the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Casey Gannon (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) finished in 14.92-seconds as the first Division II competitor, which qualified her for her second New England Championship event. Sophomore Zoe Smith (Rochester, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional) also placed in the top-10 with an eighth-place mark and a time of 14.97-seconds, just bypassing the New England's qualifying standard.
Gannon was the second runner across the stripe with a time of 1:03.92 in the 400-meter hurdles, while Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) also placed in the top-5 with a time of 1:05.07, good for fourth place and qualifying her for New Englands. Gannon was 0.26-seconds off from matching the school record
In the pole vault, all three Skyhawks earned points, as Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudston) led the way with second place and a height of 12 feet, 1.50 inches. Sophomore Ashley Colarusso (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tewksbury Memorial) placed fourth with a mark of 11 feet, 1.75 inches and Alexandra Sexton (Los Gatos, California/Los Gatos) earned eighth clearing a height of 10 feet, 8 inches. Tobin matched her previous school record with this mark, where she set it at the Silfen Invitational two weekends ago.
The 4x100-meter relay team of O'Brien, Polvere, Tobin, and Dexter clocked in a time of 47.50-seconds finishing 0.28-seconds behind first place College of Holy Cross. This time broke the school record of 47.97 which was set at the 2016 Skyhawk Invitational by Tulie Finley-Moise '17, Polvere, Hannah Ameen, and Dexter.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team of Gannon, Colarusso, Claire Hurtado (Newington, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic), and Jordan ran a time of 4:03.07 for third place out of six teams.
Four Skyhawks finished in the top 10 of the high jump, including Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston), Kathleen Giusti (Merrimac, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional), Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) and Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth). Ward hit a mark of 5 feet, 3 inches, good for second place, while Giusti matched the same height and to tie for second. Junior Daggett finished seventh clearing a height of 5 feet, 1 inch, as Perry reached a mark of 4 feet, 11 inches, good for eighth.
Ward also competed in the triple jump, where she finished sixth with a length of 35 feet, 7.25 inches. Smith also earned a top-10 mark in the triple jump, reaching a measurement of 34 feet, 11 inches finishing eighth place.
Senior Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) threw the shot put 42 feet, 2 inches, taking home third, as Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) was tabbed fifth tossing the shot put 42 feet, 0.75 inches on her fifth throw. In the discus, Lyons recorded a mark of 133 feet, 10 inches, finishing as the runner up in the field event. Stonehill will competed at the two-day Northeast-10 Conference Championships starting on Friday, May 4 at the Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Connecticut, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
