Women’s Track & Field Succeeds on Day 1 at Silfen Invitational

Caiazzi takes home individual title in the 800-meter run


Perry is third in the heptathlon after four events on day one

NEW LONDON, Conn. (April 13, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team saw a handful of student-athletes compete in day one of the Silfen Invitational at the David & Lyn Silfen Track & Field, hosted by Connecticut College on Friday afternoon.

Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) competed in four of the events in the Heptathlon, where she kicked off the multi-event with a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles clocking in at 16.39. In the high jump, the junior placed second with a height of five feet, 1.75 inches, 2.50 inches shy the winner. The junior posted a throw of 28 feet, 8.50 inches in the shot put, good for seventh place out of the 13 competitors. Lastly, she finished fourth in her heat in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.82, taking home fourth overall in the event. After the four events, Perry is third overall with a total of 2,641 points.

After taking first in her heat in the 800-meter run, junior Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) ended the event with the individual title clocking in a time of 2:17.07, .35 faster than the second place Division III competitor.

Sophomore Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) led the way in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:44.66, taking sixth place, while junior Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) clocked in a personal best time of 4:44.82, immediately following Lastra for seventh place. Sophomore Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) finished the event with a time of 4:48.30 crossing the finish line fifth in her heat for 12th overall. Senior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) also ran in the event clocking in at 4:53.94, finishing 13th in her heat and 24th overall.

Stonehill will compete in day two of the Silfen Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, April 14.
