Women’s Track & Field Wraps Up 53rd Colonial Relays in 21st Place

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 7, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team competed at day two of the 53rd Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia, hosted by the College of William & Mary for their second outdoor meet of the season.

Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) finished first in her flight in the shot put and earning the top mark in the meet with a distance of 41 feet, 1.5 inches, while Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) took home third with a toss of 40 feet, 2 inches. Lyons' mark is ranked third in the NE10 which qualifies her for New England's, while Farrell's is fourth in the conference.

Sophomore Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston) competed in the triple jump and placed ninth with a distance of 34 feet, 8.25 inches.

Stonehill's 4x100-meter relay team, including Sinead O'Brien (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood), Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers), Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson), and Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) finished fifth out of 17 teams, clocking in at 49.57. This time is currently first in the conference by 0.74 seconds.

The quartet of Tobin, Polvere, Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy), and Dexter took home second place in the 4x200-meter relay race with a time of 1:42.44.

The 1600-meter sprint medley squad of O'Brien, Zoe Smith (Rochester, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional), Ashley Colarusso (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tewksbury), and Kelly Higgins (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) placed 16th out of 19 teams with a time of 4:25.13.

Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy), Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy), Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial), and Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) made up the 4x1500-meter relay team that finished sixth out of 12 teams with a time of 19:18.81.

The group of Fiona Jordan (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood), Casey Gannon (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate), Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough), and Fernandes comprised the 4x400-meter relay team that finished sixth with a time of 4:01.77. This time ranks first in the NE10 just over six seconds.

Sophomore Jesica Litwa (Seymour, Massachusetts/Seymour) finished eighth in the discus throw with a mark of 35.02 meters, which she hit on her sixth toss. Lyons also competed in the discus throw placing sixth in the university division with a measurement of 34.74 meters on her second throw.

Stonehill follows this meet with the Silfen Invitational at the David and Lyn Silfen Track & Field in New London, Connecticut hosted by Connecticut College from Friday, April 13-14,
