Women’s Track & Field Competes at 53rd Colonial Relays

Tobin breaks school record in pole vault; six Skyhawks qualify for New England's

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 6, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team competed at day two of the 53rd Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia, hosted by the College of William & Mary for their second outdoor meet of the season.

Six Skyhawks led the way as they qualified for New England's including Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) and Sam Curtin (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) in the 10000 meter, Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) in the 100 meter and 200 meter, Casey Gannon (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) in the 400-meter hurdles, Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) in the 800 meters, and Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) in the pole vault.


Dexter qualified for New England's in the 100-meter and 200-meter runs

In the 10000-meter run, Cutillo and Curtin took home 14th clocking in at 38:45.48 and 15th in 38:58.64, respectively.

Senior Tobin finished with a top-10 mark in the pole vault championship, taking home seventh with a height of 11 feet, 7.75 inches. Tobin broke the previous school record that was held by Ashley Colarusso (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tewksbury Memorial), a mark of 10 feet, 10.35 inches which occurred at the NE10 Championships last outdoor season. Colarusso and Alexandra Sexton (Los Gatos, California/Los Gatos) competed in the university pole vault division, where Colarusso finished fifth with a mark of 11 feet, 5.75 inches and Sexton placed 18th with a height of 10 feet. Tobin and Colarusso posted the first and second highest vault in the NE10 this season.

Junior Caiazzi clocked in with a time of 2:15.05, taking fifth in her heat and 20th overall in the 800-meter run, as Kelly Higgins (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) crossed the finish with a time of 2:25.56, placing 69th overall. Caiazzi's time sits first in the NE10 this season thus far.

Junior Dexter crossed the finish line in sixth in her heat in the 100-meter dash, placing 17th overall with a time of 12.37 for the fastest time in the NE10 times thus far. Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) and Sinead O'Brien (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) finished close to each other as Polvere placed 47th with a time of 12.79 and O'Brien earned 49th clocking in at 12.82

Dexter was also the fastest Skyhawk across the finish line in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.00, finishing 20th overall, also passing as the fastest time in the NE10. Polvere was next, taking home 38th and a mark of 25.70, and O'Brien clocked in at 27.05, good for 64th place.

Freshman Gannon finished 21st in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.71 finishing second in her heat, while Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) clocked in at 1:06.67, good for 35th overall and fourth in her heat. Gannon's time at the Relays is the second fastest time in the NE10 this season.

Gannon also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, where she placed 39th with a time of 15.62 for the third fastest time in the Conference.


Caiazzi qualified for New England's in the 800-meter run

Sophomore Jesica Litwa (Seymour, Massachusetts/Seymour) finished ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 122 feet, 2 inches, while classmate Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) placed 17th with her mark of 111 feet, 5 inches.

Four Skyhawks competed in the 1500-meter run, where senior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Worcester Academy) finished sixth in her heat taking home 19th overall with a time of 4:39.45, just .10 shy of the fastest time in the Conference this season. Junior Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) finished 11th in the same section and sophomore Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) 12th, while sophomore Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) placed 10th in a different heat. Hannon earned 43rd with a time of 4:45.47, Lastra clocked in at 4:45.75, good for 45th, and Freeman placed 63rd overall with a time of 4:51.95.

Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) led the Skyhawks in the 5000-meter run placing seventh in the section and 23rd overall with a time of 18:03.92 for the fastest time in the NE10 this season. Sophomore Jordan Callahan (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and junior Isabel Baker (Charlestown, Rhode Island/Chariho) also competed, where they placed 42nd with a time of 18:36.23 and 47th clocking in at 18:48.32, respectively.

Junior Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) placed 10th in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 3 inches. Sophomore Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston) and junior Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) competed in the university division of the high jump both hitting 5 feet, 3 inches and taking home third and 10th, respectively. All three matched the best mark in the conference thus far in the season.

Freshman Fiona Jordan (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) placed eighth in her heat, while she took home 62nd overall in the 400-meter sprint with a time of 1:02.96.

Stonehill will continue to compete tomorrow, Saturday, April 7 at the 53rd Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia, hosted by the College of William & Mary.
