Women’s DMR Finishes 12th at NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Nationals

One Skyhawk competes in first track national, three run in second championship

PITTSBURG, Kan. (March 9, 2018) – Stonehill College's women's 4000-meter distance medley relay team posted a 12th-place finish on day one of the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Robert E. Plaster Center, hosted by Pittsburg State University.

Stonehill finished in 12:02.54 in the Skyhawks' fifith-straight appearance in the Championship sending a DMR team. Juniors Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan), Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy), and Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) and sophomore Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) all competed in some NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships or Cross Country Championship; this was Hannon's first track championship.

Western State University won the relay by 11-seconds over Walsh with a winning time of 11:19.98. University of Mary was edged by Simon Fraser with a time of 11:30.49, while Walsh clocked in at 11:30.22. Seattle Pacific was the fifth team across the finish line with a time of 11:31.69.

Lastra ran the opening 1200-meter leg in an unofficial time of 3:42.9, before handing off the baton to Fernandes who clocked in an unofficial time of 57.8 in the 400-meter leg. Caiazzi took on the 800-meter third leg and crossed the finish in a unofficial time of 2:14.2, as Hannon finished the mile anchor leg with a time of 5:07.2.

Stonehill will open its outdoor season on Saturday, March 31 at the UMass Lowell Spring Invite, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
