Stonehill earns 15 All-Conference honors

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (February 18, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team captured its fifth-consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Championship on Sunday, February 18 at the Smith College Indoor Track, hosted by American International College.
The Skyhawks won its fifth-straight indoor championship matching the NE10 record for consecutive indoor wins, tying University of Massachusetts Lowell who won the title from 2002-06. Stonehill has now won eight-straight combined NE10 titles for cross country, indoor, and outdoor dating back to 2015 and has captured 14 of last 15 combined NE10 Championships since 2013.
Stonehill totaled 165 points with 15 total All-Conference nods, including eight from day two of the championships. Southern Connecticut State University combined for 118 points, good for second, while American International College placed third with 99 points. Assumption College (91 points) and Merrimack College (54 points) rounded out the top five institutions.
The 4x800-meter relay team composed of Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan), Kelly Higgins (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth), Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial), and Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) took home the program's seventh-straight event title and 11th first-place finish in 12 years. The quartet finished with a time of 9:33.01, Hannon led the relay with a split of 2:21.67, while Higgins clocked in at 2:24.36. Freeman followed with a time of 2:22.91 and Caiazzi concluded the relay with a split of 2:24.08.
Hannon and Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) also competed in the mile earning first and third, respectively for All-Conference honors. Hannon clocked in at 5:06.46, good for her first-career NE10 individual title, while Lastra crossed the finish in 5:08.55. Higgins and Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) also earned points for the Skyhawks taking home fifth and sixth, respectively. Higgins finished with a time of 5:11.77 and Knox clocked in at 5:14.66, while Kacie Higgins (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) was the final Skyhawk to earn a spot in the top-10 with her ninth-place finish and time of 5:26.74.
Caiazzi and Freeman also ran in the 800-meter run earning another All-Conference honor with times of 2:17.87, good for second, and 2:18.09, good for third, respectively.
The 4x400-meter relay squad placed second with a time of 4:03.44, about five seconds above the first-place Southern Connecticut State University. Freshman Fiona Jordan (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) kicked off the lead leg with a time of 1:00.41 and classmate Casey Gannon (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) clocked in at 1:00.87. Sophomore Claire Hurtado (Newington, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic) hit a time of 1:01.95, while junior Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) finished the anchor leg with a time of 1:00.23.
Fernandes also earned points for the Purple and White in the 400-meter dash earning another All-Conference honor, clocking in at 58.25, good for third.
After sophomore Zoe Smith (Rochester, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional) qualified for finals in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday, she earned fifth in today's event with a time of 9.39.
Junior Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) earned her eighth-career All-Conference accolade with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.39.

Classmate Ashley Daggett (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) collected her first-career All-Conference honor with a third-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 3.75 inches. Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston), Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro), and Kathleen Giusti (Merrimac, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) also cleared the same height, as they fell one behind the other, respectively.
Junior Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) was the first Skyhawk across the finish line in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:28.18, good for fourth overall. Lastra was the next Purple and White taking home sixth with a time of 10:30.10. Jordan Callahan (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) just missed out on earning points for the Skyhawks with her ninth-place finish and time of 10:41.38.
In the shot put, Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) earned the team five points with her fourth-place mark and a distance of 42 feet, 9.50 inches. Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) also found herself in the top 10, tossing the shot put a distance of 42 feet, 3.25 inches, good for fifth place.
Stonehill will take part in the BU Last Chance Meet on Sunday, February 25 at the BU Track & Tennis Center, hosted by Boston University.
