Northeast 10 Indoor Track and Field Report: Week 3

EASTON, Mass. (January 16, 2018) – Stonehill College's women's track and field senior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) and members of the 4x800-meter relay team received Northeast-10 Conference honors this week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Knox competed in the 3000-meter run this past weekend at the Beantown Challenge, hosted by Harvard University, where she topped all Division I competition and crossed the finish line first. Her first indoor title of the season came four seconds in front of the runner-up from Boston College, as Knox cross the line with a time of 10:02.10. This time qualified her for the New England Championships, and was two seconds shy of the NCAA provisional standard.

The quartet of Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough), Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan), Kelly Higgins (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth), and Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) were tabbed NE10 Relay Team of the Week after placing seventh in the 4x800-meter relay at the Beantown Challenge. The team posted a time of 9:43.27. Caiazzi was the first Skyhawk in the relay as she clocked in with a split of 2:29.2, followed by Hannon who handed off the baton with a time of 2:25.4. Higgins was the third Skyhawk in line, as she crossed the finish in 2:25.2, and Lastra was the anchor of the quartet with a time of 2:23.5 for the team.

Lastra, Hannon, Caiazzi also competed in the mile this weekend. Lastra took home sixth for the first Purple and White across the line with a time of 5:10.22 and Hannon was next in line with a 10th-place finish clocking in at 5:16.12. Caiazzi wasn't far behind with her time of 5:19.19 and 14th-place mark out of 29 competitors. Higgins ran in the 1000-meter event and qualified for New Englands with her time of 3:02.39, finishing 12th out of the 28 competitors from other schools.

Stonehill competes this weekend at the URI Sorlein Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island at the Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, Rhode Island on Saturday, January 20.
