Women’s Track and Field Competes at Husky Invitational

Three first place marks lead Skyhawks at Reggie Lewis Center


Polvere finished second out of 11 competitors in the 200-meter sprint

ROXBURY, Mass. (December 9, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team competed at the Husky Indoor Invitational on Saturday, December 9, hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Massachusetts to wrap up 2017 before heading on winter break.  

Junior Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) took home one of three Stonehill titles of the day in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.97, topping the other 10 entrants. Senior Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) captured the second title of the day in the shot put, throwing a distance of 40 feet, 2 inches. Sophomore Jesica Litwa (Seymour, Massachusetts/Seymour) earned the best throw of the day in the weight throw on her fifth toss reaching a personal best measurement of 46 feet, 10 inches.

Sophomore Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Berne-Knox Westerlo) wasn't far behind in the shot put, tossing a mark of 39 feet, 1.25 inches, good for third place.

Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) clocked in at 26.11 in the 200-meter sprint, taking the runner up spot behind a runner from Holy Cross. Sophomore Kelly Higgins (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) also placed second with a time of 5:21.02 in the mile, following a rival from Assumption.

Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) finished third behind two Division II competitors in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.91. Sophomore Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston) took home third in the high jump, finishing with a mark of 5 feet, 1 inch.

Freshman Alexandra Sexton (Los Gatos, California/Los Gatos) finished tied for second with a personal best height of 10 feet, 11.75 inches in pole vault marking a new freshman record, while sophomore Ashley Colarusso (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tewksbury Memorial) followed her in fourth place with a measurement of 10 feet, 6 inches.

Stonehill heads to winter break and returns to action on Saturday, January 13 with the Beantown Challenge, hosted by Harvard University at the Gordon Indoor Track in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
