Boen Named NE10 Coach of the Year for Women’s Outdoor Track & Field

Skyhawks Hall of Fame head coach collects 50th Coach of the Year award of career

EASTON, Mass. (June 23, 2017) – Stonehill College Hall of Fame head coach Karen Boen has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year, as voted by her peers within the league.

Boen, who has swept NE10 Coach of the Year honors for women's cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field for the second straight year, has now accumulated 50 Coach of the Year awards over her 19-year career at Stonehill. It marks her second NE10 Coach of the Year honor for women's outdoor track & field and gives her five Coach of the Year accolades for the 2016-17 academic year, having also earned East Region Coach of the Year honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in women's cross country and now outdoor track & field.

Boen guided Stonehill to its third NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship last month, while also leading the Skyhawks to a 13th-place finish at the New England Outdoor Championships. A combined 21 men and women student-athletes collected a combined 30 USTFCCCA All-East Region outdoor track & field awards at the conclusion of the season, highlighted by senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and sophomore Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) earning three accolades each this outdoor season. Borofski capped her record-breaking career with a fourth place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase for her ninth career All-America award.

Boen led the Stonehill women to a sweep of the NE10 cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field championships for the second straight year during the 2016-17 academic year and third time in four years. The Skyhawks captured their eighth-consecutive NE10 Cross Country Championship in October, before claiming its fourth-consecutive Indoor Track & Field title, and just the third Outdoor Track & Field title in program history in February and May, respectively. Stonehill is one of just two programs to sweep all three NE10 titles since the Conference has sponsored both track & field and cross country. The University of Massachusetts Lowell women completed the sweep of all three titles for the first time in the 2005-06 academic year, and again in 2008-09, but no team has swept all three titles over three years like Stonehill.

Stonehill finished ranked 14th in the final UTFCCCA Division II Women's Program of the Year standings with 119.5 points after qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championships in cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field, in addition to its three NE10 titles in those sports.
