Boen Named USTFCCCA East Region Women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year

Hall-of-Fame head coach earns 49th-career Coach of the Year honor

NCAA DII Regional Award Winners for 2017 Outdoor T&F Season

EASTON, Mass. (May 24, 2017) – Stonehill College head women's track & field coach Karen Boen has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Women's Coach of the Year for the outdoor season, the organization announced Tuesday.

With this award, Boen has collected two regional Coach of the Year awards for the 2016-17 academic year, with one in cross country and one in outdoor track & field and Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year honors in Women's Indoor Track & Field and Cross Country.  In all, the hall of fame coach has brought her career total to 49 Coach of the Year honors.

Boen guided Stonehill to its third NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship earlier this month, while also leading the Skyhawks to a 13th-place finish at the New England Outdoor Championships two weeks ago.

A combined 21 men and women student-athletes collected a combined 30 USTFCCCA All-East Region outdoor track & field awards at the conclusion of the season, highlighted by senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and sophomore Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) earning three accolades each this outdoor season.

Boen led the Skyhawk women to a sweep of the NE10 cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field championships during the 2016-17 academic year, totaling 11 women's conference championships in 12 seasons. Stonehill captured its eighth-consecutive NE10 Cross Country Championship in October, before claiming its fourth-consecutive Indoor Track & Field title, and just the third Outdoor Track & Field title in program history in February and May, respectively. This is the third-consecutive year in which Stonehill women have accomplished the sweep. Outside of Stonehill, this feat has only been accomplished two other times since the NE10 has sponsored both track & field and cross country. The University of Massachusetts Lowell women completed the sweep of all three titles for the first time in the 2005-06 academic year, and again in 2008-09, but no team has swept all three titles three-consecutive seasons like Stonehill.

Borofski will wrap up Stonehill's outdoor campaign this weekend at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Bradenton, Florida. Borofski, who qualified for her third NCAA Championship in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:16.06, will run in the prelims on Thursday, May 25th at 7:25 p.m. The finals are scheduled for the following day, Friday, May 26 at 7:15 p.m.
