Preview: Borofski Ready for NCAA Outdoor Championships

EASTON, Mass. (May 23, 2017) – Stonehill College senior All-American Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) is set to represent the women's track and field program at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Tampa and IMG Academy, at the IMG Academy.

Borofski, who will be running in her third-straight NCAA Outdoor Championship, and 10th-straight NCAA Championship in her career, will compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She has competed in the steeplechase for all three outdoor championships, collecting All-America honors as a sophomore and junior. Last year, the Plymouth, Massachusetts native also shattered her own school record by finishing with a time of 10:15.17 in the Championships, which was the 10th-fastest time in the NCAA Division II history for the event.

Currently, the senior is seeded eighth in the event with her season-best time of 10:16.06, which she posted at the Larry Ellis Invitational this season for an automatic qualifying time for her chance back at the Championship.

Borofski received multiple honors this year, as she has previously including being named to the USTFCCCA All-East Region team in the 800m, 1500m, and steeplechase in outdoors, the mile, 3000m, and DMR in indoors, and cross country. She was also named the NE10 Runner of the Year for cross country and the NE10 Most Valuable Track Athlete. Concluding NE10 racing, Borofski tallied her 15th-straight NE10 title.

In her third year as a Skyhawk, Borofski was crowned her first NE10 Cross Country Championship and NCAA East Regional Championship title and once again made an appearance at the NCAA Cross Country Championship. She was named the NE10 Runner of the Year and the USTFCCCA Division II East Region Women's Athlete of the Year. In the indoor track and field season, Borofski took two more NE10 titles in the mile and the 3000-meter run, while so also took titles at the NEICAAA Championships in the DMR and the 3000-meter run. She earned All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships running in the DMR, finishing sixth. In outdoors, Borofski took two more titles at the NE10 Championship in the 5000-meter and 1500-meter run, while also topping the competition at the NEICAAA Championship in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She ran her best at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, running a personal best and school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase crossing the finish line third in the finals.

Borofski has run in 10 NCAA Championships, including four cross country, three indoor, three outdoor events

During her sophomore season, Borofski was the runner-up at the NE10 Cross Country Championships and then finished third at the East Regional Championships. She made her second appearance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships improving her time by two minutes. Borofski was named to the USTFCCCA All-East Region indoor team in the mile, 3000-meter run and the DMR. She also tallied her first All-New England honor by finishing second in the 3000-meter run at the NEICAAA Indoor Championships. Borofski was the NE10 Champion in the indoor mile and made the All-NE10 team in the 4x800-meter relay. In the outdoor season, Borofski was named to the All-East Region team in the 1500-meter run and the 3000-meter steeplechase. This was also the first year that she reached the NCAA Championship in the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

As a freshman, she was named the NE10 Rookie of the Year and to the All-Conference second team. Borofski was named to the USTFCCCA All-East Region team as a cross country runner finishing as the first freshman in the NCAA East Regional Championship, crossing the finish 11th. She then was tabbed on the All-East Region team for the outdoor season in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She was also tabbed on the All-NE10 team for the 3000-meter run and the steeplechase. The Plymouth, Massachusetts native made her first appearance in a NCAA Championship as a freshman in cross country and then participated in the NCAA Indoor Championship running in the distance medley relay and 3000-meter run as an individual.

The NCAA Track and Field Championship schedule will run from Thursday, May 25 to Saturday, May 27. Borofski will run the prelims for the steeplechase on Thursday, May 25 at 7:25 p.m. The finals are scheduled for the following day, Friday, May 26 at 7:15 p.m.

All session passes for the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships are $30 for an adult ticket and $20 for students and seniors. Single session passes are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased online at www.NCAA.com/tickets. The Stonehill women's track and field program captured its third Northeast-10 Outdoor Championship in program history and then followed that up with a 13th-place finish at the New England Championships. The women's Cross country and track & field programs have now won six-straight NE10 Championships, including cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field, and 11 of the last 12 NE10 Championships dating back to 2013.
