Women's squad earns third outdoor title in program history

EASTON, Mass. (May 7, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, claimed its second-straight, and third total, Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship this weekend, hosted by the Skyhawks.

Borofski wins her 15th-straight NE10 Championship with a new conference record in the steeplechase

Stonehill totaled 169.50 points for its third outdoor title in program history, as Southern Connecticut State University placed second with 145 points. Assumption College followed with 110 points in the third-place slot, while Adelphi University and Merrimack College rounded out the top five with 87 points and 86 points. The University of New Haven took sixth with 75 points and a strong 20-point lead over seventh-place Southern New Hampshire University (55 points). Franklin Pierce University (42 points) and American International College (38.50) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Bentley University finished 10^th with 21 points, while the College of Saint Rose (17 points) and Le Moyne (12 points) rounded out the competition.

The Stonehill women posted eight All-Conference performances over the two days, five event wins and three school records.

Senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) tallied her 15^th-straight NE10 Championship title with a time of 10:26.77 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Borofski broke her 2015 NE10 Championship steeplechase time of 10:47.96 for a new meet record picking up her second-career NE10 3000-meter steeplechase title.

Sophomore Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) also competed in the steeplechase and placed fifth with a time of 11:39.11, earning the Skyhawks four points.

Stonehill also had eight women compete in the 800-meter run and saw four of them finish in the top eight for a total of 21 points. Senior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) topped all competitors with the title clocking in at 2:15.75 earning her third individual NE10 title of he career. Freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) was the next Skyhawk across the line with a time of 2:17.30, good for fourth, as sophomore Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) followed her with a fifth-place mark and a time of 2:17.98. Freshman Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) placed seventh with a time of 2:19.50.

Junior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) finished 15.09 seconds ahead of Assumption's runner-up Antonia Pagliuca in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:11.20. This mark bypasses the NCAA Division II provisional mark as she took her first NE10 outdoor title of her career.

Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) was the next Skyhawk across the line with a time of 17:56.93, good for sixth, while Isabel Baker (Charlestown, Rhode Island/Chariho), Jordan Callahan (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) placed seventh through ninth, respectively. Baker clocked in at 18:15.64, Callahan with a time of 18:20.74 and Cutillo finished with a time of 18:20.90.

Sophomore Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) bested her preliminary time in the 100-meter dash final with a mark of 12.11, good for third. Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) was the next Skyhawk across the line with a time of 12.62 and a seventh-place finish, while Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) took eighth with a time of 13.03 and an eighth-place finish.

Dexter also bested her time in the 200-meter dash finals with a mark of 25.00, placing fifth among the qualifiers, while Polvere also earned a point with a time of 27.65.

Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) was fourth in her heat in the 400-meter hurdles, and took fourth overall with a time of 1:04.12, adding five points to the Skyhawks total.

The 4x400-meter relay quartet of Claire Hurtado (Newington, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic), Fernandes, Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth), and Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross) finished first in their heat and third over 12 teams with a time of 3:57.94.

Junior Azariah Boyd (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) crossed the finish sixth in the 100-meter hurdles after finishing eighth in the preliminaries. Boyd bested her time from yesterday clocking in at 14.95.

McAdams her wins second-straight title in the 800-meter run

Freshmen Jesica Litwa (Seymour, Massachusetts/Seymour) and Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) finished sixth and eighth, respectively in the discus throw. Litwa tossed a mark of 37.82m (124ft, 1inch) in her fifth throw, as Lyons hit a mark of 36.36m in her third throw.

Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) and Lyons earned fourth and fifth, respectively, in the shot put. Farrell led the way with a new school record, tossing a mark of 13.18m (43ft, 3inch) on her final throw, breaking Trisha Pierson's record of 42ft, 1.5inch from last years' Skyhawk Invitational. Lyons hit 12.94m (42ft, 5.5inch) on her second throw.

Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston) led the way in the high jump, placing fourth with a height of 1.63m (5ft, 4.25inch). Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) tied for sixth among 17 competitors, reaching a mark of 1.58m (5ft, 2.25inch), while Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) finished ninth also clearing the same mark as her sister.

Bobinski also clocked in with a time of 58.42 in the 400-meter dash, placing 10^th among 16 competitors.

Perry totaled 3,956 points in the heptathlon as she placed sixth, posting three points for the Skyhawks. The sophomore finished first in the 800-meter run (2:31.49), seventh in the high jump (1.48m – 4ft, 10.25inch), eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.15), ninth in the 200-meter dash (27.92) and javelin (25.33m – 83ft, 1inch), and 10^th in the shot put (9.27m – 30ft, 5inch), 12^th in the long jump (4.70m – 15ft, 5inch). Perry broke Angelina Comei's record of 3,869 points from the 2014 NE10 Championships.

Following the NE10 Championships, Stonehill will compete in the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 12-13, hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
