Borofski wins 14^th-straight NE10 Championship event

EASTON, Mass. (May 6, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, is in first place after day one of the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the Skyhawks.   

Stonehill posted five All-Conference performances on the women's side, two event wins and one school record. Currently Stonehill is first with 61 points, followed by Southern Connecticut State University with 54 points. Assumption College is third with 42 points, as Adelphi University (30 points) and Southern New Hampshire University (19 points) round out the top five teams. The University of New Haven totaled 15 points after day one events and American International College is two points behind with 13 points. The College of Saint Rose is placed eighth with 10 points and Le Moyne College is ninth with eight points, as three teams, Merrimack College, Franklin Pierce University and Bentley University are tied with seven points each.

Senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) tallied her 14^th-straight NE10 Championship title with a time of 4:28.50 in the 1500-meter run. This time moves her up on the NCAA outdoor qualifying list and marks a new NE10 championships and program record, surpassing the previous mark of 4:28.69 set at American International last year. Borofski also collects her first W.B. Mason Stadium facility record, surpassing the previous mark of 4:29.44 held by Anne Twombly set at the 2013 New England Championships.

Sophomore Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) qualified for the 100-meter dash finals tomorrow with her time of 12.40 in the preliminaries, while Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) and Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) also qualified for finals with their times of 12.39 and 12.46, respectively.

Dexter also took second in the long jump and captured her first All-Conference honor with a jump of 5.58m (18ft, 3.75inch). Dexter and Polvere also qualified for the 200-meter dash finals tomorrow with a time of 25.12 and 25.33, respectively.

Junior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) earned her third All-Conference honor, as she finished second behind Borofski with a time of 4.35.14. Freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) and senior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) followed in fourth and fifth, respectively. Lastra clocked in a time of 4:37.39, as McAdams crossed the finish line with a mark of 4:37.80.

Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay quartet of Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough), Lastra, Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial), and McAdams reclaimed the title for the Skyhawks with a time of 9:20.42, six seconds in front of second place Le Moyne.

Freshman Ashley Colarusso (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tewksbury Memorial) finished second in the pole vault with her mark of 3.31m (10ft, 10.25inch) and her first NE10 All-Conference honor. The freshman also marked a new school record, previously held by Alison Tobin and Meaghan Olin (10ft, 8 inch)

Junior Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) finished third in the 10000-meter run in the field of 23 competitors with a time of 38:47.59, as sophomore Taylor Landers (North Andover, Massachusetts/Pingree School) also earned points for the Skyhawks with a time of 40:23.78, placing seventh.  

Azariah Boyd (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) qualified for the 100-meter hurdles finals with her preliminary time of 15.11. Freshman Zoe Smith (Rochester, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional) just missed out in qualifying for finals with her time of 15.42, finishing ninth in the preliminary run.

Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) earned one point for the Skyhawks with her eighth-place finish in the hammer throw tossing a distance of 41.41m (135ft, 10inch). Jesica Litwa (Seymour, Massachusetts/Seymour) wasn't far behind with her 10^th-place finish and a mark of 40.02m (131ft, 3 inch).

Jessica Vining (Woburn, Massachusetts/Woburn Memorial) just missed a chance to earn the Skyhawks a point with a 9^th-place mark in the javelin throw and a distance of 34.83m (114ft, 3inch).

After four events in the heptathlon, Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) has totaled 2,414 points. The sophomore finished seventh in the high jump (1.48m – 4ft, 10.25inch), eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.15), ninth in the 200-meter dash (27.92), and 10^th in the shot put (9.27m – 30ft, 5inch).

Stonehill will return to action tomorrow on day two of the outdoor championships, starting with the combined and field events at 10:00 a.m., followed by the start of the track events at 11:30 a.m.
