Twenty Personal Bests Lead Women’s Track and Field to Fourth-Place Finish at 10th Skyhawk Invitational

EASTON, Mass. (April 29, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team, ranked No. 1 in the USTFCCCA East Regional rankings, finished fourth behind three Division I teams at the 10th Skyhawk Invitational held at W.B. Mason Stadium Saturday, April 29.

Boston College took first place at the meet 217 points out of 21 events scored. The University of Rhode Island and the College of Holy Cross followed with 163 points and 89.50 points, respectively. The Skyhawks took fourth with 83 points, as Boston University totaled 44.50 points and Southern New Hampshire University placed sixth with 43 points. Bryant University finished in seventh with 38 points closely followed by Assumption College with 37 points and Merrimack College with 35 points, good for eighth and ninth, respectively. In 10th, American International College combined for 28 points, as Bentley University finished 11th with 12 points.

Knox

Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) took second in the 100-meter dash clocking in at 12.23, as Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) placed sixth with a time of 12.56, just shy of qualifying for New Englands.

Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) clocked in at a personal best 25.79, just shy of New Englands, in the 200-meter dash, placing fifth in a field of 39 competitors. Finley-Moise also ran in this event, clocking in a time of 25.82.

Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross) was also just shy of qualifying for New Englands finishing seventh with a personal best time of 58.47 in the 400-meter dash.

Sophomore Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) and freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) finished just above the New Englands qualifying time in the 800-meter run. Caiazzi clocked in at a personal best 2:16.10, as Lastra completed the race in a personal best time of 2:16.31, placing sixth and seventh, respectively.

Senior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) finished third, picking up six points for Stonehill, in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:40.22. Junior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) was the next Skyhawk in the race crossing the finish with a personal best time of 4:43.51.

Junior Azariah Boyd (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 14.97, just bypassing the New Englands standard, and earning Stonehill five points.

Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) was the lone Skyhawk to finish in the top-10, placing ninth, in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.66.

The Stonehill 4x100-meter relay team placed sixth among nine teams with a mark of 48.51. The squad consisted of Finley-Moise, Polvere, Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover), and Dexter. The team was the second Division II team to cross the finish, as Merrimack placed fourth with a time of 48.27.

The 4x400-meter relay team finished eighth among 11 teams, recording a time of 4:13.55.  Bobinski, Claire Hurtado (Newington, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic), Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth), and Fernandes. The team was the fourth Division II team to cross the finish.

The 4x800-meter relay team was runner-up to Boston College, who took first, clocking in with a time of 9:51.14. McAdams, Lastra, Caiazzi, and Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) made up the squad. 

Junior Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) finished second behind Assumption's Gwendelyn Sawyer, in the shot put, throwing a mark of 12.47m (40ft, 11inch), bypassing the New Englands mark. Freshman Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne Knox Westerlo) also bypassed the New England qualification with a mark of 12.35m (40ft, 6.25inch).

Bobinski

Freshman Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston) was the second Division II competitor to finish in the high jump hitting a mark of 1.55m (5ft, 1inch), as Merrimack's Olivia Downey took third. Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) wasn't far behind as she placed ninth, with the same mark.

Ward jumped a personal best distance of 10.95m (35ft, 11.25 inch) in the triple jump, finishing ninth in a field of 18.

Freshman Jesica Litwa (Seymour, Massachusetts/Seymour) was the first freshman and second Division II competitor throw in the top-10 of the discus throw. Litwa tossed a distance of 38.44m (126ft, 1inch), good for fifth. Lyons also threw in the discus throw, placing ninth with a mark of 35.48m (116ft, 5inch).

Litwa threw in the hammer throw as well, hitting a personal best distance of 42.82m (140ft, 6inch), placing fourth overall. Senior Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) followed Litwa with a sixth-place mark, reaching a distance of 41.60m (136ft, 6inch).

Other performances:

Sinead O'Brien (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) finished 10th with a time of 12.82, as Ameen took 12th crossing the finish with a time of 12.96 in the 100-meter dash.

Boyd finished ninth in the 200-meter race with a personal best time of 26.10, as O'Brien also ran, clocking in at a personal best 27.05, good for 14th.

Hurtado placed 17th in the in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.58.

Senior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) finished 22nd in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:22.11, followed by Anna DeVitto (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) in 25th with a personal best time of 2:24.01. Kelly Higgins (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) was the final Skyhawk to cross the finish with a personal best time of 2:26.14, good for 31st.

Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) took 11th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:51.02, as Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) followed in 12th with a personal best time of 4:54.18. Isabel Baker (Charlestown, Rhode Island/Chariho) earned 15th in the race, clocking in at a personal best time of 4:55.90. Jordan Callahan (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) placed 18th with a time of 4:56.96, as Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) was the last Skyhawk to finish sub-five minutes with a personal best mark of 4:58.59. Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) finished 22nd in the 43-competitor field with a personal best time of 5:00.71, as Danika Wayss (Warwick, Rhode Island/Pilgrim) earned 26th clocking in at 5:02.29.

Freshman Olivia Libby (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) placed 16th in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 1:14.76.

Zoe Smith (Rochester, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional) placed 13th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.70, as Perry finished 18th with a personal best mark of 16.66.

Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) and Perry finished with a mark of 1.50m (4ft, 11inch) in the high jump as Daggett tallied 12th and Perry took 15th. Smith also competed in the high jump hitting a height of 1.50m (4ft, 11inch), good for 18th.

Elizabeth Balzarini (Dedham, Massachusetts/Dedham) finished 10th in the shot put as the last Skyhawk in the event, throwing a distance of 11.09m (36ft, 4.75 inch). The freshman also threw the discus, finishing 12th with a mark of 33.04m (108ft, 5inch), as junior Julianne Holbrook (Pembroke, Massachusettsl/Pembroke) hit a distance of 32.12m (105.4ft, 4 inch), placing 15th. The junior also threw the hammer toss, hitting a personal best mark of 36.85m (120ft, 11inch).

Jessica Vining (Woburn, Massachusetts/Woburn Memorial) finished 10th in the javelin throw with a distance of 34.07m (111 ft, 9inch). Lepley wasn't far behind, as he placed 12th with a mark of 33.36m (109ft, 5inch). Perry also hit a mark for 24.29m (79ft, 8inch) placing 21st.
