Women’s Track and Field Earns Title at Yellow Jacket Invitational

Three first-place marks drive Skyhawks to first title of outdoor season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 9, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team placed first at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International College, on Saturday, April 8, finishing with 167.83 points.

The Skyhawks captured first place with ease, as they surpassed second-place Assumption College by 68.83 points, putting the Greyhounds at 99 points. Southern Connecticut State University took third place with 82 points, as Southern New Hampshire University finished fourth with 58 points and Merrimack College rounded out the top five with 43.33 points.

Stonehill saw three first-place marks, five second-place marks, and seven third-place finishes with 15 personal best.

Seniors Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Masachusetts/Plymouth North), Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) and Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) all placed in the top five in the 1500-meter run. Borofski took the title with a time of 4:38.84, while McAdams placed second clocking in at 4:47.86 and Buonfiglio finished fourth with a time of 4:54.51, earning the team a total of 23 points.

Finley-Moise

Borofski also earned a second title in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:14.82, as freshman Jordan Callahan (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) placed third with a personal best time of 18:32.21.

The 4x100m relay team, including Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington), Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers), Hannah Ameen, and Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) finished first among 16 teams, clocking in at 50.19 and earning Stonehill 10 points.

Olivia Dexter finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.30, while Emily Polvere took fifth and Finley-Moise placed sixth. Polvere clocked in at 12.71, as Finley-Moise finished with a time of 12.78.

Dexter also placed third in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish with a time of 25.43, as Polvere followed right behind finishing fourth with a time of 25.81. Finley-Moise took seventh with a time of 26.09.

Azariah Boyd (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) finished as the runner up in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 15.49. Zoe Smith (Rochester, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional), came up behind Boyd, taking fourth with a personal best time of 16.16.

Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) clocked in at 1:07.19 in the 400-meter hurdles, good for second place.

The 4x400-meter relay team, including Claire Hurtado, Krista Fernandes, Colleen Perry, and Megan Bobinski placed third with a time of 4:15.40.

In the high jump, four Skyhawks finished in the top 10, including Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston), Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro), Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro), and Zoe Smith (Rochester, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional). Ward reached a distance of 1.60m placing third, while the Daggett's fell right below that with a mark of 1.55m, good for fourth and sixth, respectively. Smith finished eighth with a height of 1.50m.

Freshman Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) took second with a throw of 12.05m in the shot put, while Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) came right after her with a throw of 11.59m, good for third.

Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross) finished just above a minute, 1:00.15, in the 400-meter run placing third.

Freshmen Jesica Litwa (Seymour, Massachusetts/Seymour) and Lyons finished in the top-five in the discus throw with Litwa finishing fourth and Lyons in fifth. Litwa threw a personal best mark of 35.75m, while Lyons tossed a distance of 35.26m.

Freshmen Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) and Danika Wayss (Warwick, Rhode Island/Pilgrim) placed in the top 10 in the 800-meter run with times of 2:23.87, good for 4th, and a personal best 2:27.00, good for 8th, respectively.

Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) finished third in the 10,000 meter run clocking in sub-40 minutes, a personal best, 39:20.61, while Taylor Landers (North Andover, Massachusetts/Pingree School) followed in fourth with a time of 40:07.05

Stonehill will travel to Amherst, Massachusetts for the Minutemen Invitational on Saturday, April 15 with a 11:30 a.m. start time, hosted by UMass Amherst.

Other performances:

Sinead O'Brien (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) finished 20th in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 13.12, while Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) clocked in at 13.18 earning 23rd out of 63 competitors.

Claire Hurtado (Newington, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic) finished in the top 20 with a time of 1:04.01 earning 18th in the 400-meter dash.

Junior Julie Shultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) placed 16th in the 1500-meter run with a personal best time of 5:09.98.

Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) crossed the finish 14th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.40.  Perry also finished 11th in the high jump hitting a mark of 1.50m.

Alyssa Vieira (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) took 15th in the high jump with a mark of 1.45m.

Olivia Libby (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) placed 15th in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 1:15.55.

In the triple jump, Ward reached a distance of 10.07m, good for eighth place, while Vieira earned 15th with a mark of 9.76m.

Elizabeth Balzarini (Dedham, Massachusetts/Dedham) took 12th with a throw of 10.82m in the shot put. Balzarini also competed in the discus throw, finishing ninth with a personal best mark of 33.41m.

Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) took ninth, while Litwa finished 10th in the hammer throw. The Senior threw for a mark of 40.26m, as Litwa tossed a personal best distance of 39.64m.

Lepley also competed in the javelin, where she finished 13th with a distance of 33.14m, as Jessica Vining (Woburn, Massachusetts/Woburn Memorial) placed 11th with a mark of 33.28m

Julianne Holbrook (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) tossed for 29.28m in the discus throw, good for 15th.
