Plymouth, Massachusetts, senior earns eighth career All-America honor with seventh place finish in school-record time

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 11, 2017) – Stonehill College senior All-American Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) posted the eighth All-America performance of her career with a seventh place finish in the one mile run at the 2017 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, being held in conjunction with the Division II Championships Festival, hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville and the Birmingham CrossPlex, at the CrossPlex this afternoon.

Borofski shattered her own school record in the process as she collects All-America honors for indoor track & field for the third straight year in a third different event. Her first team All-America honors in the mile joins first team accolades with the 4000-meter distance medley relay, earning second team honors for the 3000-meter run in 2016 and DMR in 2015. She finished in 4:47.21 this afternoon, bettering her previous school mark of 4:49.71 in winning her sixth career individual New England Championship two weeks ago by 2.50-seconds. Western State University junior Alicja Konieczek won the event in 4:37.42, taking over with around 300-meters to go after runner-up Emilee Trost from the University of Minnesota Duluth had led the first 1300-meters before finishing in 4:40.96.

Borofski, running the mile for the third straight day for the first time in her career after qualifying ninth overall in 4:50.22 on Thursday and then running the mile anchor for Stonehill's DMR that finished 13^th last night in 11:46.65, sat in seventh place through much of the race this afternoon, running mid-36-second splits through the first 1000-meters. She made a move to fifth with 200-meters to go with her fastest lap of the race at the time of 35.21-seconds, before completing the final lap in 34.65.

Borofski has now earned All-America honors four times at the NCAA Indoor Championships to go with a pair of cross country honors and two outdoor accolades in the 3000-meter steeplechase, including a program-best third place finish last spring. Her 19^th place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships this past fall is also a program-best.

Borofski was joined at the NCAA Championships this weekend by sophomores Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) and Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough), along with freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy), who all competed in last night's DMR with Borofski.

Borofski's eight All-America awards are the most by a Stonehill women's student-athlete in program history and matches the total Corey Thomas '13 earned over his record-breaking career at Stonehill, including the 2010 indoor high jump national championship. Of Borofski's eight All-America accolades, five are first team honors after today's finish.

Borofski's run completes a successful indoor season for the Stonehill women's track & field program, which captured a fourth straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship and placed ninth at the New England Championships. The Skyhawks will open their outdoor season on Saturday, March 25, at the UMass Lowell Spring Invitational at 11 a.m.
