Women rank second in East Regional rankings, Men rank fifth

EASTON, Mass. (February 23, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's and women's track and field team will compete in the New England Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

The women are currently ranked No. 2 in this week's U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II East Regional Computer Rankings behind Northeast-10 Conference foes Southern Connecticut State University. In last year's New England Championship, the Skyhawks saw its best mark of seventh in six years and strive to top that mark.

The women captured its fourth-straight NE10 Indoor Track and Field title in program history last weekend, as the Skyhawks saw three individual titles. Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) led the pack as she earned her third mile crown and her second 3000m title. The 4x800-meter relay, including Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough), Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield), Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) and Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown), won the programs' sixth-straight relay title and tenth in 12 years.

Borofski earned two titles once again this year, as she marked two new NE10 Championship records in the mile with a time of 4:51.00 and in the 3000m with a time of 9:53.96. The senior aims to top her second-place mark at New Englands from 2015, as she is ranked 10^th in Division II. She also holds the reigning 3000m crown and is ranked 17^th in Division II. She was also named the NE10 Most Outstanding Female Track Athlete after her top performances.

Freshman Lastra and senior McAdams will also be running alongside Borofski in the mile, as both set personal bests at the NE10 Championships this year and last with times of 5:02.73 and 4:51.27, respectively.

At last years' championship, the 4x800m relay finished second among 17 teams, crossing the finish line at 9:10.44. The squad aims to top the mark after taking the crown at the NE10 Championships. The Skyhawks will also send a 4x400m relay, where last year's squad finished 15^th with a time of 3:56.75. Last weekend, the 4x400m relay finished fourth at the NE10 Championship. Stonehill will also be sending a distance medley relay team that ranks first among competitors and 12^th in Division II with a seed time of 11:45.29.

Sophomore Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) is ranked in Division II in two of her three events including 49^th in the long jump and 54^th in the 200-meter dash. The sophomore broke the school record at the NE10 Championship in the 60m clocking in at 7.72. Dexter aims to top her 10^th-place mark from New Englands last year when she ran 25.34.

Sophomore Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) is ranked 37^th in the high jump with a height of 5ft, 5.25inch, which she set at the URI Invitational this year and the New England Championships last year finishing fifth in the field. Teammate Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston) is also ranked, 46^th, in Division II with a mark of 5ft, 5inch, which she set at the Beantown Challenge.

Junior Azariah Boyd (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) finished seventh in finals at the NE10 Championship with a time of 9.27 and 9.22 in preliminaries, where she will be competing in her first New England Championship.

Senior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) will also be competingin the New England Championship, where she is ranked 15^th among 200-meter competitors with a personal best time of 25.62, which she marked at the BU Valentine Invitational this year. Junior Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) will also be competing in the 200-meter dash, where she ranks 17^th among New England competitors with a time of 25.70. The junior finished seventh at the NE10 Championship, while Finley-Moise finished behind Polvere in eighth.

Senior Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross) earned a fourth-place finish at the conference championships with a time of 1:17.44 in the 500-meter run marking her personal best.

Caiazzi will be competing in her second New England Championship as she ran in the 4x800 and the mile run last year as a freshman. This year she takes on the 800-meter run, where she placed third among the NE10 with a mark of 2:20.93. The sophomore ranks 20^th among the New England competitors.

Freshman Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) will be the lone Skyhawk running in the 1000-meter race. She ranks 15^th among the competition with a 3:03.25 mark, which she clocked in at the NE10 Championships this past weekend. Classmate Jordan Callahan (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) will also be running in her first New England Championships, as she is also the only Skyhawk in the 3000-meter race. The freshman finished sixth at the NE10 Championships with a time of 10:40.11.

Another freshman, Ashley Colarusso (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tewksbury Memorial), ranked 19^th among New England competitors in the pole vault, with make her first appearance at the championship with a personal best mark and school record of 10ft, 6inch.

Freshman Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) and junior Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) will represent Stonehill in the shotput, as Lyons holds the school record with a distance of 42 ft, 11 inch and Farrell has thrown a personal best distance of 41 ft, 9.75 inch.

MEN:

The men placed fourth at the NE10 Championships totaling 94 points, finishing behind Southern Connecticut State University (147 points), American International College (137 points), and Merrimack College (100.50 points).

Senior Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) was the lone Skyhawk to earn NE10 All-Conference team honors, as he finished second in the 5000-meter race clocking in sub-15 minutes. He is ranked fourth in New Englands with time of 14:51.41.

Junior Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) hit a new personal best in the heptathlon with 4209 points this year at the Tufts Stampede. Classmate Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) ranked 21^st in the weight throw with a distance of 15.79m. He aims to top his 17^th-place mark from last year where he threw a distance of 14.96m.

Joshua Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) 200-meter dash ranked 24^th with a personal best time of 22.43, which he ran at the BU Valentine Invitational this year.

Freshman Andrew Scarlotto (Portsmouth, New Hampshire/Portsmouth) will be competing in the 400-meter race ranking 13^th with a time of 49.70. The freshman finished fourth at the NE10 Championships clocking in just above his personal best, 50.36.

Sophomore Daniel Madsen (West Haven, Connecticut/Notre Dame High) ranks 15^th in the 500-meter race with a time of 1:06.44. Madsen took a seventh-place finish at the NE10 Championship earning Stonehill two points with a time of 1:06.91.

Sophomore Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) ranks 11^th among the competition in the 800-meter race with time of 1:54.33, competing in his second New England Championships. Vercollone clocked in at 1:56.94 in the NE10 Championship finishing fourth. Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) fell close behind Vercollone in the 800m as he finished seventh with a time of 1:57.99. Burleigh is ranked 16^th among New England competitors with his personal best time of 1:54.95. The senior will strive to compete as an individual this year, as he assisted Stonehill in the distance medley relay which placed seventh and the 4x800m relay where the squad finished fourth.

The 4x400m relay also earned NE10 All-Conference recognition with their second-place finish, where they are ranked 16^th with time of 3:23.75 in the New England Championships. Last year the core four finished 15^th with a time of 3:21.24. At the NE10 Championship, the 4x800m was edged by American International for fourth place crossing the finish with a time of 7:59.47. Stonehill finished seventh in last years' distance medley relay with a time of 9:56.71, while this year the relay finished third at the NE10 Championship with a time of 10:23.69. This year's squad is currently ranked 10^th among New England competitors.

Alexander Demeule (Merrimac, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) was another Skyhawk with a top-five finish at the NE10 Championship, finishing fourth with a time of 4:18.94 in the mile. He ranks 15^th with time of 4:17.04 at the New England Championship making his first appearance.

Junior Jordan Sullivan (Sound Beach, New York/Miller Place) ranks 20^th with height of 1.95m high jump, as he finished third at the NE10 Championship with a mark of 1.89m. Junior Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) ranks 23^rd with a mark of 4.25m in the pole vault, where he aims to beat his 13^th-place finish at the championships last year. Classmate Jonathan Naval (Stratford, Connecticut/Bunnell) finished seventh at the NE10 Championships and ranks 21^st in the triple jump with a distance of 13.73m, which marked his personal best.

Following the New England Championships, Stonehill will send a group to the NCAA Indoor Championships which take place from March 10-11 at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Alabama.
