Women’s Track & Field Records Sixth-Place Finish at URI Coaches’ Tribute Meet

Women's track and field records 10 top-10 finishes at the meet

KINGSTON, R.I. (February 4, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team finished sixth among 14 teams at the URI Coaches' Tribute Meet Saturday at the Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, Rhode Island.  

The Skyhawks finished sixth among 14 teams in its second time traveling to Rhode Island. UMass Amherst took first with a total of 125.50 points, as Rhode Island placed second with 118.75 points. The College of Holy Cross (81), the University of New Hampshire (77.25) and Brown University (51) surpassed the Skyhawks. Central Connecticut State University followed with 29 points, as Bryant University and UMass Boston finished with 26 and 23 points, respectively, tallying eighth and ninth place. Rhode Island College took 10th place with 21 points.

Dexter competed in three events making it to the top-five of each event

Senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) was the only Skyhawk to earn first place, as she crossed the finish with a time of 4:57.24 in the mile run, bypassing the NCAA provisional mark.

Freshman Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn & Berne-Knox Westerlo) threw the shot put for a personal best and new school record of 13.20m (43ft, 3.75 inch) bypassing the New England qualifying mark.

Sophomore Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) competed in three events finishing in the top five in each. She opened up with the 60-meter dash where she placed third in finals with a time of 7.76 behind first place Northeast-10 Conference foe Merrimack College and Rhode Island in second. Later she took second in the 200-meter dash clocking in at 25.59 and fifth in the long jump with a personal best distance of 5.54m (17ft, 10.75 inch). Her mark in the long jump matched the qualification for New Englands.

Senior Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross) clocked in at a personal best time of 1:00.51 in the 400-meter dash, good for fifth place.

Freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) finished seventh in 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.9, bypassing her fourth NE10 standard.

Other Stonehill Performances:

Senior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) placed 12th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.48, while also finishing 17th in the 60-meter dash in 8.12.

Freshman Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Masachusetts/Billerica Memorial) finished the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.93 qualifying her for NE10s.

The squad of Bobinski, Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth), Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers), and Claire Hurtado (Newington, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic) placed ninth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:14.77.

Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) hit a mark of 1.60m (5ft, 3 inch) in the high jump as she finished fifth.

Junior Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) threw the shot put for a distance of 12.22m (40ft, 1.25 inch), good for sixth place.

Stonehill stays local and competes at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University on Friday, February 10 at the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
