Women’s DMR Posts NCAA Provisional Time at Bruce Lehane Scarlett & White Invitational

In the squad's opening meet with the event, Lastra, Fernandes, Caiazzi, and Borofski bypass the NCAA provisional time

BOSTON, Mass. (February 3, 2017) – Freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy), sophomore Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy), sophomore Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough), and senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) placed fourth in the distance medley relay at the Bruce Lehane Scarlett & White Invitational, hosted by Boston University Friday night.

Mississippi State University finished first overall with a time of 11:10.63, as Boston College clocked in at 11:18.86, good for second. Virginia University recorded a time of 11:30.28, as Stonehill crossed the finish with a time of 11:45.29 squeezing between the Cavaliers and Northeastern University, who finished fifth with a time of 11:53.70.

With an unofficial time of 3:36.72, in the opening 1200-meter leg, Lastra got a jump start before handing the baton off to Fernandes for the second portion. Fernandes sprinted off with the baton in the 400-meter leg, hitting a split of 55.9 before meeting Caiazzi. Caiazzi completed her 800-meter leg in 2:20.3, for the third portion, before dishing the baton off to Borofski who finished the mile anchor in 4:52.28.

The squad bypassed the NCAA provisional time and is currently third on the qualifying list, sitting behind Simon Fraser University and Seattle Pacific University.

Stonehill will compete at the URI Coaches' Tribute Meet, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, on Saturday, February 4 in the Mackal Fieldhouse.
