Women’s Track & Field Encompasses Successful Finishes at Tufts Stampede

NCAA provisional marks met, school records broken, and multiple first-place finishes among performances

MEDFORD, Mass. (January 28, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team competed in the Tufts Stampede on Saturday, January 28 at the Gantcher Athletic Center, hosted by Tufts University, and saw an array of results.

The women saw five first-place finishes throughout the meet including in the 3000-meter run, the 60-meter dash, the 1000-meter run, and the 4x200 meter relay.

Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) blew out the competition running in her first meet of the season, as she finished first in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:47.59. The senior bypassed the NCAA provisional mark for the event.

Stonehill saw three competitors finish in the top three in the 1000-meter run including Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy), Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) and Anna DeVitto (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke). Lastra clocked in at 3:01.83, good for a first-place finish, while Freeman earned fourth with a time of 3:11.94 and Devitto finished with a time of 3:17.52, good for ninth and a personal best time. 

Olivia Dexter  (East Calais, Vt./Union 32) finished first among competitors in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.84 in the finals, as Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Mass./Coyle and Cassidy) followed her with a mark of 8.09. Emily Polvere (Somers, N.Y./Somers) and Hannah Ameen (Andover, Mass./Andover) also competed in the finals, finishing fifth (8.18) and eighth (8.24), respectively.

Dexter, Polvere, Finley-Moise, and Ameen were among the 4x200-meter relay that finished first with a time of 1:44.77 setting a new school record set previously in 2015. Lastra, Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough), Danika Wayss (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim), and Freeman also topped all competition in the 4x800-meter relay, clocking in at 9:51.90.

Emily Knox (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) and Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) finished second and third, respectively, in the 5000-meter run with times of 17:54.20 and a personal best time of 18:11.89, respectively.

Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) and Zoe Smith (Rochester, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) followed each other in the high jump recording heights of 1.62 meters and a personal best of 1.57 meters, respectively placing second and third.

Polvere also clocked in at 27.31 in the 200-meter dash placing eighth among all sprinters.

Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Mass./Coyle and Cassidy) crossed the finish second among all 400-meter runners with a personal best time of 58.56.

Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Conn./Holy Cross) was the first Skyhawk to cross the finish the 600-meter run with a time of 1:41.10, good for second place.

Smith tallied eighth in the 60-meter hurdles final event clocking in at 9.85.

Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, N.Y./Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) placed third among shot put competitors throwing a distance of 40 feet, 4.75 inches meters. Gaelin Farrell threw for 11.65 meters, good for sixth place.

Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) set a new school record in the indoor pentathlon with a fifth-place finish tallying a combined effort of 2790. Perry surpassed Vlada Shelkova's 2750 points from the Tufts Stampeded in 2010.

Other Skyhawk Performances

Claire Hurtado (Newington, Conn./Northwest Catholic) finished eighth as the only other Skyhawk runner to compete in the 600-meter run crossing the finish eighth with a time of 1:44.95.

Wayss finished 11th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.25.

Caiazzi finished the mile run with a time of 5:24.92 earning seventh in the field.

Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) and Julie Schultz (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) also competed in their first meet of the season running in the 3000 meters. Grimaldo earned 10th with a time of 11:08.28, while Schultz followed her with a time of 11:12.40.

Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) were the next two Skyhawks  cross the finish in the 5000-meter run earning eighth and 10th, respectively. Cutillo clocked in at a personal best time of 18:33.37, while Hersom finished with a personal best time of 18:43.27.

Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) finished sixth in the high jump, with a height of 4 feet, 11.75 inches and Alyssa Vieira (Taunton, Mass./Coyle and Cassidy) fell eighth with a personal best height of 4 feet, 9.75 inches.

Vieira also extended to 33 feet, 4.75 inches in the triple jump, good for fifth place in the competition.

Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) threw the weight throw for 43 feet, 5.25 inches, placing seventh in a 42-competitor event. Jesica Litwa (Seymour, Mass./Seymour) was the only other Skyhawk to place in the top 10 with a distance of 41 feet, 8 inches.
