Skyhawks Hall of Fame head coach sweeps NE-10 and regional coach of the year honors for cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field for academic year
NE-10 Announces 2016 Outdoor Track & Field Award Winners
EASTON, Mass. (June 15, 2016) – Stonehill College Hall of Fame head coach Karen Boen has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year, as voted by her peers within the league.
Boen, who has now accumulated 46 Coach of the Year honors over her 18-year career at Stonehill, sweeps NE-10 Coach of the Year honors for women's cross country and women's indoor and outdoor track & field for the first time, by earning her first NE-10 award for Outdoor Track & Field. It marks her sixth Coach of the Year award for the 2015-16 academic year having also swept U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region honors for all three women's seasons as well. Of her 46 career Coach of the Year accolades, a combined 32 at the NE-10 and regional level have come in men's and women's cross country and 14 for men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field.
Boen, inducted to the Stonehill Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014, guided the women's outdoor track & field program to its second Northeast-10 Championship in program history as well as an eighth place finish at the New England Championships. The Skyhawks swept NE-10 Championships for women's cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field for the second time over the last three years, marking just the fourth time in Conference history a program has accomplished the feat. Stonehill finished the year ranked 11th in the USTFCCCA's Program of the Year standings for overall performance at the three NCAA Division II Championships.
Eight of Boen's student-athletes collected a combined 13 USTFCCCA All-East Region honors this spring, with junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) earning All-America honors for the second straight year in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Bradenton, Florida, last month. She was joined at the championships by fellow junior All-American Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown), who qualified for the 1500-meter run. Freshman sprinter Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union-32) was also recognized by the NE-10's outdoor track & field coaches this week with women's track Rookie of the Year accolades.
Stonehill produced nine All-Northeast-10 Conference performances at the NE-10 Outdoor Championships this spring, including six individual titles, on its way to the program's second outdoor team title. The following week, six of Boen's student-athletes earned All-New England honors at the New England Outdoor Championships, with Borofski and McAdams winning New England championships in the steeplechase and 1500-meters, respectively.
