Skyhawks junior All-American will run for championship tomorrow night McAdams places 16th in 1500-meter run prelims
BRADENTON, Fla. (May 26, 2016) – Stonehill College junior All-American Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) posted the top qualifying time in tonight's 3000-meter steeplechase preliminaries to qualify for tomorrow night's event final at the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Tampa and IMG Academy, at the IMG Academy complex.
Borofski won the second section of the preliminaries in 10:23.08 to earn one of the eight automatic qualifying spots for tomorrow night's 3000-meter steeplechase final at 7:30 p.m. Her time, which is just under two seconds off her school-record time of 10:21.40 at the Larry Ellis Invitational, was the top qualifying time of the night. Borofski, who will be looking to improve on an 11th place finish in the event last year, finished first in her section, which included top-seed and defending national champion Emily Oren of Hillsdale College who finished right behind Borofski in 10:24.98.
Borofski, seeded fifth in the event after automatically qualifying for the Championships, was near the front from start to finish, sitting second after 400-meters when she took the lead following the first water jump. She continued to lead the section through 1000-meters and with a time of 4:37 after the third trip over the water jump, started to pull away from the pack. Borofski continued to stretch her lead to about 25-meters with 1000-meters remaining, before Oren started to charge with two laps to go. Oren was on Borofski's hip as the two had pulled away from the field when the bell lap sounded as the clock slipped over the nine minute mark, but Borofski maintained her lead over the final water jump and then stretched it out again over the final 100-meters to finish strong.

Junior All-American Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown), competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and as an individual at an NCAA Championship for the first time, placed 16th in the 1500-meter run prelims in 4:34.16. Seattle Pacific University senior Lynelle Decker posted the fastest qualifying time of 4:27.34 in the second section to lead the 12 qualifiers for Saturday night's event final. McAdams finished ninth in her section, which was won by Oren in 4:28.67 – fifth-fastest overall.
McAdams was fourth after the first 400-meters and then sat at the end of the lead pack at the 900-meter mark. The lead pack began to pull away and she was tenth with 400-meters remaining before closing to ninth with a strong kick in the final 150-meters. McAdams entered the Championships as the 15th for the event, having won the New England Championship in the 1500-meters two weeks ago in 4:33.35.
Borofski will bring Stonehill's 2015-16 track & field championship to a close tomorrow night when she runs the 3000-meter steeplechase final at IMG Academy at 7:30 p.m.
