18^th year coach led Stonehill to second NE-10 outdoor title in program history

EASTON, Mass. (May 24, 2016) –  Stonehill College head coach Karen Boen has been named the East Region Coach of the Year for women's outdoor track & field by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

With the award, Boen is one step closer to sweeping the major coaching awards for cross country, women's indoor, and outdoor track & field for the 2015-16 academic year. In all, the hall of fame coach has collected five coach of the year honors this year, bringing her career total to 45. Boen will now wait to see when the Northeast-10 outdoor track & field awards are announced later this month to see if she can pull off the sweep.

Boen guided Stonehill to its second Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship earlier this month, while also leading the Skyhawks to an eighth place finish at the New England Outdoor Championships two weeks ago.

Eight of Boen's student-athletes collected a combined 13 USTFCCCA All-East Region awards at the conclusion of the season, highlighted by junior All-American Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North), whose four honors led the team.

Boen led the Skyhawk women to a sweep of the Northeast-10 Conference cross country, indoor, and outdoor track and field championships during the 2015-16 academic year. Stonehill captured its seventh consecutive NE-10 Cross Country Championship last October, before claiming its third consecutive Indoor Track & Field Title, and the second Outdoor Track & Field Title in program history in February and May, respectively. This is the second time Stonehill has accomplished the sweep, with the previous time coming in 2013-14. Outside of Stonehill, this feat has only been accomplished two other times since the NE-10 has sponsored both track & field and cross country. The University of Massachusetts Lowell women completed sweeps of all three titles for the first time in the 2005-06 academic year, and again in 2008-09. 

Borofski and junior All-American Aisha McAdams (North Kingston, Rhode Island/North Kingston) will wrap up Stonehill's outdoor campaign this weekend at the NCAA Championships in Bradenton, Florida. Borofski, who qualified for her second NCAA Championship in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a school record time of 10:21.40, will run in the prelims on Thursday, May 26^th at 7:55 p.m., with the final scheduled for Friday at 7:15 p.m. McAdams, who is competing in her first outdoor NCAA Championships, qualified for the NCAAs in the 1500-meter run with her time of 4:29.34, and she will run in the 1500 prelims Thursday, May 26^th at 6:20 p.m., with the final scheduled for Saturday at 5:45 p.m. Stonehill is currently ranked first in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional computer rankings.
