Daggett Leads Stonehill on Day One of New England Outdoor Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn.
(May 13, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, competed at Southern Connecticut State University today during day one of the New England Outdoor Championships in New Haven, Connecticut.

Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) posted her second career All-New England performance in the high jump, finishing tied for third with a height of 5-feet, 3-inches, earning Stonehill 4.5 points towards its team total. Daggett received All-New England accolades in the winter in the high jump and was an All-NE-10 performer in the event in last week's conference championships.

Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) narrowly missed qualifying for tomorrow's finals in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, finishing just .06 and .08 seconds away, respectively. Dexter finished ninth in the 200-meter with a personal best time of 25.20 seconds and 11th in the 100-meter, clocking in at 12.42 seconds. Senior All-American Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) also competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 21st with a time of 25.95 seconds.

Junior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) and sophomore Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) joined Dexter in the 100-meter dash and placed 18th and 22nd, respectively, with times of 12.52 seconds and 12.63 seconds.

Senior All-American Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) finished 15th out of 30 entries in the 100-meter hurdles prelims, clocking in at 14.85 seconds.

Senior All-American Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) placed 12th in the 400-meter hurdles prelims in 1:03.66, while freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) ran to a 20th place finish with a time of 1:05.24.

Senior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) competed in the 400-meter dash prelims and placed 24th with a time of 58.83 seconds. Junior Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) was the lone Stonehill entry in the 5000-meter run and finished in 22nd place, clocking in at 18:17.33.

Stonehill will be back at Southern Connecticut State tomorrow for day two of the New England Outdoor Championships at Jess Dow Field.
