Women's Track & Field Ready to Leave Mark at New England Championships

EASTON, Mass. (May 12, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked No. 1 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II East Region Computer Rankings, will look to leave its mark at the New England Championships on Friday and Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Stonehill, which swept this year's NE-10 Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field titles, will look to build upon its seventh place finish at the Indoor New England Championships held on February 26th and 27th. Stonehill will be competing against other qualifying schools throughout New England from Divisions I, II, and III.

Junior All-American Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) is seeded first in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:21.40 seconds, which was set on April 22nd at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Borofski has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the event and currently ranks fifth nationally. She will be looking to earn All-New England honors and her second individual title after capturing the 3000-meter run title at the Indoor Championships.

Junior All-American Aisha McAdams (North Kingston, Rhode Island/North Kingston) is seeded second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:29.69, which provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championship later this month in Saint Leo, Florida. Joining McAdams in the 1500 is classmate Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) who is seeded 16th (4:40.42), freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) seeded 23rd (4:46.43) and classmate Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) who is slated 27th with a time of 4:50.08.

Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) who just recently earned All-Conference in the high jump, is ranked fourth out of 24 entries in the event with a height of 5-feet, 7.25-inches which she set at the  Minuteman Invitational on April 16th.

Senior All-American Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) is seeded eighth in the 100-meter hurdles out of 32 entries with a time of 14.54 seconds, while classmate and All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) is slated for 17th in the 400-meter dash in 56.95 seconds.


Junior Aisha McAdams is seeded second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:29.69.

Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay team consisting of a combination of senior All-American Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy), Buonfiglio, senior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional), McAdams, Caiazzi and Hannon are seeded third out of 17 teams with a time of 9:10.44.

Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) is set to compete in two individual events, as she is seeded 11th in the 100-meter dash in 12.21 seconds and 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.34 seconds. Joining Dexter in the 100 is sophomore Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) who is seeded 20th (12.46 seconds), junior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) who ranks 23rd with a time of 12.48 seconds, and freshman Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) who is slated 24th in 12.50 seconds. Senior All-American Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) is seeded 30th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.92 seconds.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) will be competing in a pair of events, as she is seeded 10th in the discus throw with a distance of 135-feet, 5-inches and 14th in the shot put with a throw of 42-feet, 1.5-inches. Joining Pierson in the shot put is sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) who is slated 18th with a distance of 40-feet, 1.25-inches.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Carberry and freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) are seeded 23rd and 29th, respectively, with times of 1:04.89 and 1:05.25. Junior Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) will compete in the 5000-meter run and is seeded 24th with a time of 18:16.81.

Stonehill's 4x100-meter relay team consisting of a combination of Finley-Moise, Polvere, Ameen, Dexter and Kent is seeded eighth with a time of 47.97 seconds, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Gray, Esernio, Fernandes, Kent and Polvere are slated ninth with a time of 3:56.75.

Following Saturday's New England Championships, Stonehill will return to action on the weekend of May 26th as a select few runners will compete at the NCAA Championships held in Saint Leo, Florida.
