Women's Track & Field Finishes Third At Holy Cross Invitational

Skyhawks post six event wins at Division I meet

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 24, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, posted six event wins and 21 top-five performances in turning in a third place team finish at the Holy Cross Invitational today, hosted by the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Stonehill, which was the only Division II program in the field, compiled 103 points to finish third. Holy Cross won the team title with 158 points, followed by the University of Maine (111 points) to round out the top three.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) posted two event wins today, placing first in the discus throw with a distance of 131-feet and finishing in first in the shot put with a distance of 40-feet, 5.5-inches. Sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) also competed in the shot put and finished in third place with a distance of 39-feet, 1.75-inches.

Senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) claimed first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.80 seconds. Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) posted an event win, finishing first in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 8-inches. Dexter also competed in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 26.19 seconds, while sophomore Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) came in fifth in 26.44 seconds.

Stonehill's 4x100-meter relay of junior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington), Polvere, senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) and Dexter finished first and clocked in at 48.18 seconds.

Junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) placed first in the 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 11:32.94. Senior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) finished in fifth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.67.

Finley-Moise and freshman Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) competed in the 100-meter dash and finished in third and fourth, respectively, with times of 12.48 seconds and 12.50 seconds.


Junior Alexandra Buonfiglio placed first in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:32.94.

Freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) placed third in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 4:52.22, while classmate Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) placed fifth with a time of 4:53.27.

Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) placed second in the high jump with a height of 5-feet, 3-inches, while senior Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, Rhode Island/Coventry) placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 34-feet, 7.5-inches.

Senior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) competed in the hammer throw and recorded a distance of 140-feet, 4-inches, good for fifth place, while junior Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) placed sixth with a distance of 137-feet, 4-inches. Lepley also competed in the Javelin and finished in second place with a throw of 112-feet, 7-inches.

Freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.54 seconds, while sophomore Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) competed in the pole vault and finished in fifth, clearing a height of 9-feet, 8-inches.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team finished in fourth place with a time of 4:06.33. Esernio ran the lead leg, followed by senior Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) and junior Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross) before Fernandes ran the anchor leg.

Stonehill returns to action next Saturday when it hosts its Skyhawk Invitational, held at W.B. Mason Stadium.
