Women's Track & Field Has Strong Showing at Yellow Jacket Invitational


Senior Trisha Pierso recorded two top five finishes today in the shot put and the discus throw.

Skyhawks register nine top three finishes on the day

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 9, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked No. 1 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, had an outstanding showing at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International College, which saw the Skyhawks record nine top three finishes and 12 top five finishes.

Senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.00 seconds, while classmate Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) recorded a third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.22.

Stonehill's 4x100 meter relay won the event with a time of 49.02 seconds. Junior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) ran the lead leg, followed by sophomore Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers), and freshmen Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) and Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) ran the anchor.

Dexter led a group of four Stonehill runners who finished in the top 15 of the 100-meter dash, finishing second with a time of 12.58 seconds. Polvere placed third, clocking in at 12.84, while Ameen came in seventh with a time of 13.00 and senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) rounded out the group, placing 14th out of 72 competitors in 13.08 seconds.


Senior Jeana Esernio won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.00 seconds.

Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusets/Attleboro) cleared a height of 5-feet, 3-inches in the high jump, which was good for second place while classmate Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) placed ninth with a height of 5-feet, 1-inch.

Senior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) finished in second place out of 68 entries in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:57.07, while freshman Adrienne Santoro (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) registered a top five finish, coming in fourth place in 4:59.87. Freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) ran to a fourth place finish out of 36 competitors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.29 seconds.

Sophomore Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) placed second out of 17 competitors in the pole vault, clearing a height of 10-feet, 6-inches. Junior Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) finished sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 138-feet, 9-inches and senior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee , Massachusetts/Chicopee) placed eighth with a distance of 133-feet, 6-inches.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) finished fourth in the shot put out of 33 entries with a distance of 39-feet, 11.25-inches, while sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) came in sixth place with a toss of 38-feet, 8.75-inches. Pierson also finished second in the discus throw with a distance of 133-feet, 4-inches.

Stonehill will compete in two events next weekend, starting Friday night at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College, and then at the Minuteman Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts, on Saturday.
